Nah, they didn't ruin anything for me. They made it better. If you took away BTC from the championships these races would be super boring and I probably wouldn't bother to watch.

A BTC runner didn’t win every race in and were just a fraction of a second ahead of runners from other clubs in other races. Posters like to claim that U.S. runners have to dope to compete internationally so why do they believe only the BTC athletes are cheating? Maybe the other clubs are better at micro dosing than BTC or have receipts for pork burritos.
It's not limited to Bowerman - I've heard OAC is doing sketchy stuff as well (all on thyroid medication).
Because historically in other sports that parallel distance running there has been one dominant US team that had the resources to outclass the opposition. USP had access to the best doping experts, its own medical staff to administrator blood transfusions and epo. Riders would join, make huge gains, then leave and fall off even though they were still doping. As I say, there is doping and then there is Doping.
I don't think BTC is that bad. Not enough money in distance running. But it plays a similar role. It is bankrolled by the biggest player in the game, Nike. Assuming doping is widespread on the pro level domestically. Well BTC has the resources to stay a step ahead. To have the best medical staff and advisors. (What was the name of that doctor again?). To dope that much more effectively. Maybe even to corrupt the antidoping system domestically. Follow the money.
BTC is the most rotten apple in the US running scene because it can be.
BTC actually made it exciting. Watching fantastic races with talented athletes. I see alot of jealousy here. Anyone who thinks that they cheat and other athletes on the track don't is delusional.
In cycling I would say that the top 150 were doping. But there were differences in degree. Certain athletes would come in super chemically prepared. It is a matter of resources.
That’s a lot of speculation on your part and how expensive are these “doctors”? One person with the needed skills to beat the system would be just as good as 20.
What’s in it for Nike? I doubt if it would have much impact on sales if 1-2 BTC runners medal. It would be ridiculous for Nike to risk its reputation over pocket change.
It's ridiculous to think that third world countries dope better than we can. It's also ridiculous to think that BTC is any dirtier than everyone else who is going to World's from the US. Don't be a fool.
With that said, I think the races are still enjoyable to watch. Great competition all around and I hope our dopers beat the other countries dopers in a few weeks!
Lenny - agreed. 2 scenarios on here
Scenario 1 - us runners run clean - 0 medals, 0 top 10s, 100% bitching on LR bc the US runners suck.
Scenario 2- us runners keep up with the rest of the world - a few medals, 3 top 10s, bitching on LR because of doping.
personally I'm tired of all the doping talk, lets watch them run..
They have neatly replaced NOP in that role for many of us, even if Schumacher doesn’t dress like a skinny Darth Vader.
People want to win. Why does Nike sponsor a team at all if it did not matter to them?
At some point, if you feign incredulity hard enough, you come out on the other side.
Oh I don't know. Not having credible doping controls or getting the doping green light from the ostensible national sports authorities can work wonders. Dosing instead of microdosing. Doing the full monty. Not sure if it is third world, but like Spain in the 90s.
Your head needs to be examined.
Definitely. No argument from me.
Does anyone else find Courtney Frerichs' perfectly timed peaks / 20-30 second SBs every single year at least a little suspicious? I can't tell if I'm witch hunting them all b/c of Shelby, but her timing just seems so so perfect every single year for the international stage.
LOL. What? Remember they sponsored Athletics West including Drug Cheats Salazar and Decker, then Drug Cheat Armstrong, then NOP led by Drug Cheat Salazar, invited Block despite his 10 year ban into their Nike tent, re-hired Double Drug Cheat Gatlin, and now keep supporting BTC despite Drug Cheat Houlihan etc.
Seems to be their modus operandi.
i agree, honestly everyone in track and field and pro sports in general 'dopes' to some extent. People complain about BTC and the 'burritos' yet are totally cool with products like Xendurance which is proven to increase a person's Vo2 max. Only problem I really have is 'blood doping' because of how dangerous it can be. Too many athletes have dropped dead because of that.
I'm really interested in the sheer lack of self awareness it takes to let someone serving a doping ban "bump into athletes" for training runs on altitude trips. Any responsible coach would tell her to get lost.
That's why I have so much respect for GDS. She stood by her values and spoke out. Do you know how many friends she probably lost for that? People she spent months with and knew for years...
Sticking by your values is hard work apparently.
It's really easy to dismiss everyone as a troll. It's really easy to look in the mirror and say "I know what's in MY heart". But BTC used to be a scrappy group and is now shrouded in doping suspicions. They are hurting the sport as a whole.
FWIW I don't believe Karissa's performance. What an accomplishment to blast out a 4:25 mile on tired legs after rounds of the 15. At least Elise and Emily were drafting. But miss 14:26 with humble beginnings? Give me a break, Karissa, we see through it.
Courtney Frerichs has "health issues" now. Go figure. She just kept getting better and better didn't she? Emma hung at 9:02 for years and years, but Courtney smashed that barrier so easily. Awesome Courtney! Couldn't have been anything else could it have been?
At some point we need to actually talk about Evan Jäger's fancy bears leak.
And if anyone knows something more, now's a good time to talk. No hiding in the background. No liking a drug cheat's posts because they were nice to you once. It's just pathetic.
I am waiting for a prominent East African or Russian to get busted. I am waiting for all the righteous Americans to post about it and how unfairrrrr it is. They are all so ridiculous and such a joke to clean sport over their handling of this.
Wasn't Ritz in that Fancy Bears leak, too? OAC...
This is where I stand exactly. For what it's worth, I think there are plenty of East African runners doing it clean, just like there are plenty of American runners. It's really hard to explain, but I have my suspicions about certain runners and I root for the runners that I believe are clean, American or otherwise. Could I be wrong? Sure. However, there are certain attitudes that rub me the wrong way regardless of if they are clean or not, and Jerry and any athlete continuing to be coached by him certainly rubs me the wrong way.
