This constitution created the richest, most powerful, most altruistic country in the history of the World and leftists want to scrap it because it hasn't created perfection...lol
Right wingers share a trait with the rich (venn overlap?), which is the (false) assumption that their virtue is somehow unassailable, that they work the hardest, and are the most entitled to goodness. None of these could be further from the truth. Only when Americans open their eyes to their utter un-exceptionalism will we be able to progress.
This is Critical Race Theory in action. CRT essentially argues that racism is "baked into" American society and that all of the values that created one of the most prosperous and diverse societies in history are actually just an elaborate smoke screen to create and maintain white supremacy.
Many people have such a poor grasp on world history (including Western civilization) that they don't understand that slavery was the norm, not the exception, until relatively recently. They mistake the very ideas that paved the road to freedom for slaves and suffrage for women as their cause. Frederick Douglass, who was surely a lot smarter than most of us, appealed to our founding documents to illustrate the hypocrisy of slavery.
Nobody is arguing that the US doesn't have problems, including racial disparities and some racism, but we are one of the most diverse and tolerant societies because of our formerly shared values: individual freedom, moral equality of all people, and free and open debate. Now, people who have no knowledge of history or human psychology are advocating for policies that predictably lead to tribalism and violence. We see fools charging tens of thousands of dollars for "trainings" in which they divide people into racial affinity groups with a goal of ending racism--this, when countless experiments and historical examples show that dividing people into groups and telling the groups that they are morally inferior or superior leads to groupthink, positive in-group stereotypes, negative out-group stereotypes, etc.
Your entire argument blithely ignores the obvious fact that the entire enterprise was pure poison from the start and that your beloved constitution was merely part of the poison. Any culture/civilization that so readily embraces the kidnap and enslavement of other people, as farm animals on a massive industrial scale, is broken from the outset. The drafters of our foundational documents forced accommodation for their own vile ownership of people, which means that their documents were morally bankrupt then and are worth even less now.
The constitution is fruit from the poison tree. Right along with an actual reckoning regarding this country's most vile original sin, the entire structure and underlying assumptions about representation and governance desperately call for remaking in the US.

Very good post. I was just about to say that the person you responded to sounds like someone who has a very, very limited worldview with a hint of indoctrination.
You aren't keeping up with where your country is going. It is becoming increasingly polarised while the prospect of a majority consensus is disappearing. Bi-partisan solutions are receding. This is reflected in the prevailing view that the losers in an election - or a court decision - should just suck it up and go home. That is a winner takes all approach which can split a nation - as it did in 1860. "A house divided cannot stand" - as Lincoln said. You're heading there again.
The Constitution should be a force for unifying a nation on the basis of a common set of principles. It has now become a weapon in partisan politics, to impose the will of an extreme minority over the majority - as this SCOTUS has just demonstrated.
You are not even American. Why does your opinion matter?
It doesn't. No one's does. Your country is on its way to collapse as a nation. It is going to come part because you can't agree how you wish to be governed and you can't stand those who don't agree with you.

I have many friends who disagree with me politically. They like me and I like them. This is true of the vast majority of this country. Those who "can't stand" the other side are just the loudest, and get the most coverage.

Their idiocy astounds me...
What we want is to not live in a country where a cultish, anti-democratic minority concerned only with power at any cost can impose a plutocratic theocracy via bastardized reading of said constitution. Maybe a little over your head.

The clueless ramblings of a poorly educated white man, steeped in our mediocre white washed education system. Some racism? Apparently you haven't read a major newspaper in the last number of years. Tolerant? Been to a klan-adjacent republican rally in the last ten years? Tribalism and violence? You mean the attempted coup and violent, organized insurrection, led by the then-President and his lawless followers?
As is typical of white, middle-aged men in this country, you assume that ugliness you haven't been forced to experience must not exist. What you describe above are nothing more than the flowery wishes from writers who had the luxury of not being treated as less than a human being. In whichever white washed school you attended, you very likely learned nothing about the immense scale of industrialized slavery that the slave states fought tooth and nail to maintain. The very foundational wealth of this country largely derived from slavery. You very likely have no clue about the rabidness of white demonization of the freedmen during reconstruction, nor the premature end of reconstruction, leaving the freedmen to be re-victimized by the white citizenry. You likely never learned about the confederacy never truly relenting, to this very day. You know nothing about Tulsa, the commonness and terror of random lynching, the reach of the KKK, systematic differentials in opportunity and access, the federal persecution of MLK that led to his murder. White kids in school have never been forced to recognize and internalize the bare ugliness of our racial legacy. God forbid that the sweet little white kiddies be made to feel uncomfortable!
On top of that original sin that remains ongoing in so many ways, the 'founders' you revere were much more akin to wanna-be robber barons than the high-minded statesmen you were trained to believe they were. The principle problem they had with Britain was the payment of taxes. They just didn't want to have to pay taxes, to anyone. How very capitalist of them! You can apply as much pretty prose as you'd like, but the revolution was led by rich capitalists who just wanted 'freedom', which meant 'freedom to get mine and everyone else can f-ck off'. This was no exceptional endeavor from the start. We are no city high on a hill.
If we would collectively absorb the truths about our essence from the beginning, perhaps we could achieve something special here beyond maintaining the largest military in history. If you are one of the white 1% you can stay in your bubble, feel free to stare at your navel and believe in your virtue. Just hope that it doesn't all fall apart while you're still alive.

You are becoming the exception. The middle is ceasing to exist, as your culture becomes increasing polarised. The left and right can no longer talk to each other - as threads like this show, where there is no acceptance of the view of the other "tribe".

Of course that's your response. You understand nothing of your own culture and your own history.

Yes, nice job at providing exhibit A of American Racist Exceptionalism. Because we do such a poor job educating our kids about the vile underpinnings of industrialized slavery and early American financial dependence and windfall generation based on same, today's average white American cannot imagine that the flowery 'shining city on a hill' propaganda on which we're all raised is untrue.
The easiest thing in the world to do, when ignorant of these underpinnings and failure to educate, is to then point the finger and call racism when confronted with these realities. It's also the laziest, most un-ironically racist and injurious reaction one can conjure, which likely explains right wing authoritarian embrace of this reaction in the last number of years.
