Grant is the real deal. 13:03 in this kind of heat running the last few laps by himself is no joke, if he ran at Rome DL a few weeks ago and had a day like today, I'd bet he would've been under 12:50. I still think he's a class below Cheptegei, Barega, Kiplimo, Ingebrigtsen, etc, but at his best he could absolutely mix it up with those guys. Up there with Mo Ahmed, I think.

I agree completely. Grant certainly isn't a medal "favorite", but he has a shot!
really great to see an American go be a racer - to just go all-in and trust that he or she is tough enough to hang. I was pretty sure Fisher had miscounted laps the dude was going so hard. Seeing that kind of gutsy performance is what track needs. Maybe he'll inspire others to do the same.
16x400m at mile pace with 1 minute rest just seems impossible to me.
In retrospect, it's the kind of workout I've seen high school kids do sometimes before they get injured or underperform badly in races. Natalie Cook's 4x1600 workout comes to mind, but I don't want to pick on her. The point is that a monster workout can show out-of-this-world fitness, but more often it just shows ill-advised training.
closer to Bekele than most legends who step on the track
So stupid. The Bekele 5000 in 2008 is widely regarded as the greatest 5000 EVER run. Is it some genius analysis to say Fisher didn’t actually run that well today? Of course not! The bottom line is that Fisher killed it today. It was a world class performance and NO Cooper Teare would have had NO shot to beat him if he had decided to run. NONE!!!
Much higher chance Fisher beats Teare in the 1500 yesterday than Teare beats Fisher in the 5000 today.
For those that don't pay attention - Teare ran 13:06 mostly solo in the rain with a 4:05 last 1600 and a 55.85 final lap. He only had a pacer for 1800m. This was in March. Fisher closed in 4:03 with pacers for 3800m.
A healthy Hocker would have beat Fisher today. Klecker would have been closer than Kincaid for sure
Hocker has not run a 5000 within 15 seconds of Fisher. You cannot seriously think he would have beaten Fisher. That’s just dumb. Klecker is a little bit more of a challenge, but no, again, peal Fisher you saw today and peak Klecker are not in the same league. The issue is whether or not peak Fisher has a chance against Aregawi et al. Stop with the nonsense about domestic competition. Fisher at his best is way better than the rest of the Americans at 5000 and 10000.
The whole Ethiopian team, Kimeli, Krop, Kiplimo, and Cheptegei can all run that pace comfortably and still close a lot quicker than 60. I can see him beating two of those on a very good day so I think 5h is his ceiling in the 5k. I honestly think Kincaid is a better medal prospect in the 5k since there's always the chance the race goes slow and he has good foot speed
You're assuming he will beat Jakob as well? Pretty bold prediction there.
I forgot that he is doubling. The 5k in Eugene will be the strongest it's been in years, if Ethiopia doesn't screw around with their team as they usually do. I'd also forgotten that Kiplimo hasn't raced at all other than RAK this year so maybe he shouldn't be considered a contender. With Jakob, that's still seven that I'd rate above Fisher as likely medallists

fisher closed in 3:57 indoors in february to run 12:53 faster than all but one person ever not named bekele, komen, or gebrselassie
they aren’t in the same category at 3000 and up
That's also a little misleading since the 5000 is really only run indoors in the US. This year, there were only two indoor 5000m races outside of the US. I don't think there's been an elite indoor 5000m anywhere else in the world in the last decade and no Kenyans or Ethiopians race in those US meets. He ran a great time, but "4th all time" in the indoor 5000 is like 4th all time in the 150m or 300 hurdles
Seems obvious that Chelimo posted the workout on youtube as a smoke screen to try and cover his clearly inadequate fitness. Every kilometer he ran was slower today.
That or he ran his race to complete the workout instead of yesterday.

Chelimo at his best is just as good as Fisher at 5,000m. 3x global outdoor medals, but clearly not fit enough this year.
