Tough luck for Wynne. Would have been difficult for him to make the team anyway but looks like he got tripped with just under 100 to go. Bummer, definitely his best chance to make it he's had recently. Still got a few good years left in him though
Why wouldn’t the people in this race without the standard try to run it? Like the Illinois guy… no point in coming in 2nd if the result is that slow
People have different priorities. Maybe his goal is a US medal. Maybe 2nd place at nationals was already a long shot and prioritized maximizing those chances, vs the chances to get blown out at worlds.
Teare was boxed on the very first lap and had to slow down to swing out to lane 3... Very impressive kick for the win but in a non 3:45 race he would have been in real trouble

I don't think he is even capable of sub 3:35 rn let alone to be the one to lead the race to it. Finishing 2nd was probably way more valuable for his pro contract negotiations.
You mean the same Cooper Teare who set the Collegiate Record in the Mile by - effectively - leading wire to wire?
I am baffled that he continues to insist on focusing on the 5k. Even more so that people “sleep” on him in shorter events.
why do you say he's focusing on the 5k?
It was based on the fact that last summer - months after setting the NCAA Mile Record - he ran the US OT 5k, placing a respectable 4th, rather than 1500m. If memory serves correct, he’d commented on that potentially being his better event in more than one of the New Gen YT videos, though I don’t have a specific one to reference.
To be clear: I’m glad to see him in the 1500m and doing well. Hopefully his strength + closing speed amount to a solid showing at World’s.
If you think Jonathan Davis (a person whose name you don't even know) is running 3:34 on a 80 degree day in Eugene leading the whole way you're smoking crack.
Wait, you’re surprised he did this? I think we all expected him to win, especially with Hocker not making the final. Many people on here think he’s a better 1,500/mile guy than a 5,000 guy (3,000 is probably his best distance in all honesty). I’m not surprised at all.

Yeah. Soloing a PR in a championship meet while doing all the work for your competitors seems like a great idea. I wonder why people rarely do that…
I think Leer tried to get some people to share the pace in something like that a number of years back, but those efforts never really pay off in the 1500.

I don't think anyone is surprised he won. But it was somewhat surprising they way he did it. He has been outkicked in a bunch of races, by Hocker, last year in the trials, at Pre, etc. He has usually won but pushing the pace from further out. And with about 200 to go I was thinking that, tactically, he had blown the race. It was good to see him win in this type of race.
I hope he runs the 5000m. He has the potential to win it. Fisher's kick is questionable and Chelimo is a question mark (yes I know he did the ridiculous workout, but workout is not racing).
What about the new distance window tomorrow afternoon (1:30 to 2:30 eastern). Will that be broadcasted nationally? Rn it doesn't look like anyone will be broadcasted live. Hoping that they show the rerun at the time that it was originally scheduled for i guess.
