Watch St Pierre and the Ethiopians in the 3000m indoor final this year.
Heck, watch 75% of races at rounds at major champs.
North American middle distance running is extremely respectful and passive about holding space. Today is what you get when you get three women refusing to give ground. McGee, St Pierre, and Schweizer all got pushed around at the Olympics last summer in their races. You can tell they learnt their lessons and refused to yield today.
Great physical racing and hopefully they carry over that determination to worlds.
Karissa Schweizer should be ashamed. I’ve never seen a race where somebody intentionally bumped, elbowed, and cutoff other runners as much as she just did. She nearly took out both Cory McGee and Elle St. Purrier at various points. Absolutely despicable performance.
I see what you're saying. Burrito rage. Thinks she's playing hockey or something. I guess they can't DQ a favorite in a major event.

I re-watched the race trying to see what you are talking about. Just good racing.
I saw the thread title, but didn’t click until after I just watched the race on YouTube. I was expecting something egregious, but didn’t see anything worthy of complaint. I agree with you, just good racing.
I thought schweizer ran a smart race. She probably needed sub 2 800 speed to be in the top 3, but nearly got it. 4th in a tactical 1500 while being the best 10k runner in the nation is RANGE. yall are too critical.
Yeah we saw that too. Big Schweitzer fans in our house but we saw that and collectively gasped. Was on the dirty side of normal tactics and felt extra gross considering she probably wouldn’t run the 1500 at worlds even if she qualified.
^This is what I meant. She nearly took out St. Pierre and McGee, who are both clearly deserving of being in the team. It was very selfish running and she nearly weakened the US team by racing the way she did.
What do you expect, she is a bratty runner. Distance doubling at champs is selfish, as is the way she sat on Monson at the 10k trials.
Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should - Klecker quoting Ritz on the Coffee Club podcast. The US is so deep, why take the spot of someone just as deserving, when that could be their one opportunity. Why not just put all your energy and focus into one race at the champs and give yourself the best chance to perform.

Sitting on someone is not selfish. You know that in every race, the field will sit on the leader right? If Monson doesn't want to be sat on, then she better develop a kick.
And who cares if Schweizer wants to try out the 1500? She qualified and got a very respectable fourth over many 1500m runners. She's probably the best 5000m runner in US right now, so this race shouldn't hurt her. Just because Ritz said that does not mean it's the right thing to do and every athlete needs to follow that.
Three runners squeezed in two lanes. McGee tried a short cut past Schweizer, who resisted. Finally McGee went around and that was it. No doubt the best three won, and Johnson was dominant (don't know why LR characterized it as a close race). Props, especially, to McGee who is right at her all-time peak at age 30. It's a nice trio (all three have sub 2 800's), and with good fortune all have a chance of making the final. Only Johnson has the raw talent to make the podium, but it would be a big leap for her.
