I’ve heard he talked with them but I was under the impression it wasn’t moving forward. Would be surprised if he was getting much pay…
Did they fact check his resume?
There is no world where he lands a prime D1 coaching job. Zero chance.
How does D1 matter? Theres nothing special about D1. 90% of D1 sucks. Rojo got a D1 job, albeit in the "Baby Conference", without any experience at all. Brosnan's already has an impressive resume. He could coach in the big leagues.

Because ND is a D1 program and that is what this thread is about.

He wouldn’t be head coach at Notre Dame. They will be promoting Sparks almost assuredly. The open position would be an assistant in charge of men’s distance.
Let’s see if Brosnan can get the NP girls to a title and see if the boys program can continue to flourish without a Young or a Sahlman on the roster. He was given a gift and made the most of it. Can he coach regular kids to the same level as his current squad? That remains to be seen.
Don’t understand why people think this is so unrealistic. Carlson was coaching high school at Saint Charles North before coming to ND. My understanding is he only had a very brief stint assistant coaching at a d3 level before that. Doesn’t seem that unlikely that a much more qualified coach like Brosnan could land the same gig
Carlson started out as a volunteer assistant coach at ND.

Promote Sparks to what? Sparks is already the Director of Track and Cross-Country. He hires the entire staff.

Sure, he can do that and then still have no chance at the ND job. This thread is funny.
However, some ADs are dumb. Sean was actually a finalist for the Cal Poly position. The AD was hesitant because he was a high school coach and wasn't sure the guys would "buy into his training." Which is absolutely stupid, but it goes to show you how little some ADs know things about our sport.
However, the posters mentioning how Carlson came from obscurity and worked out really well could also help Sean if he wanted the job. He is a phenomenal coach and ND already had success with taking a lesser-known coach to national prominence.
Isn’t the ND current coach doing the best job of any past ND coach?
He has Nuguse who is an Olympian and may be a WC qualifier soon.
Dylan Jacobs is the current 10,000 champion (total 6 sub 28:50 runners this year)
Best job of any ND coach? The previous coach had many more All-Americans. They were in the sprints, the field and not just distance events. Had more NCAA champions and an Olympian as well. Didn't have 4 distance coaches on staff and 60 distance runners.

You’re right. I had it reversed in my mind. The position that Carlson had though doesn’t actually pay that well as I don’t believe it’s even 6-figures.

Are you serious? Have you heard of Jayce Aschbrenner (sp).. 8:43 3200 2 years ago.. Fiona Hawkins (ran 16:08?) as true Frosh in college this year.. their #5 guy this year ran 8:52 right!?

Ok. I meant mid distance/distance. I can’t remember any mid distance/distance champ from ND. I’m sure there was in the program history (>25 years ago or maybe not). Also, 6 guys below 28:50? My point was that the ND mid distance/distance program is doing extremely well right now. There are so many universities that are struggling. ND is a strange choice.
Are you kidding? That is like saying you got a job as the head of finance at your local pizza parlor that has 5 employees as opposed to head of accounting for Dominoes. ND has 30 scholarships worth about $2.4M. D3 schools have no scholarships to manage. ND's track budget is 100 times what an average D3 school is. ND has a bunch of guys running 13:30 and 28 minutes while an average D3 school has a bunch of guys running 15 minutes and 32 minutes.
