Trans kids and teens are a high suicide risk, no question. A population already alienated suddenly becomes one or two in a hundred, if not less, with this decision, and hence, even more alienated. Trans numbers vary greatly by state. Hence, it appears that the atmosphere around in terms of promotion or dismissal of trans- identities affects the choice to become trans significantly. Promoting it for kids whose self-confidence is limited and whose cultural self that they present to others is already in flux increases suicide, while promoting acceptance tends to decrease suicide. If a man or boy claiming to be a girl or woman dominates girls or women's competition, that would make them feel better and women and girls worse, while the transwomen, as they're called, could just as well compete against their own biological gender. Society does not have to validate every individual choice we make about how we conceive ourselves to be where there is a reason not to, namely, fairness. If it's wrong in the large scale, so too probably on the small scale, the one or two per state (but there are many more on the way with rates for 13-18 as high as 3-4/100). If it increases suicide risk to exclude from women's and girls' sports, that increase is surely much less than the choice to be trans and in any case such kids can just compete against their own sex.
