The 15/10k is nearly impossible for the women at Worlds this year. The 1500/5k double is reasonable, but with the 1500 first, and an event she would get smoked in on the international stage, she would
Day 1 evening 1500 Round. Day 2 morning 10k final. Day 2 evening 1500 semi.
KS has a legitimate outside shot at a medal in the 5k or 10k, so not sure why she’s messing around with the 1500 at USAs.
As fragile as she is, and the high heat for Eugene USA 5k final predicted for this Sunday, it seems odd that she would even consider jeopardizing her chances for the 5k. But it’s desperate times for Jerry at the moment, and she’s the only female athlete he has running well, so perhaps he’s looking to run the table.
On one hand, you’ve provided all but proof that Schweizer isn’t targeting the 1500 at Worlds-it would be completely nutty. But with one significant surgery that she was able to run pretty well prior to and has rebounded from impressively, I wouldn’t call her “fragile.” And then to suggest Schumacher would run her in the 15, 5 & 10 contradicts the rest of your post and goes against everything we know about his M.O.
I also think she shouldn't be taking her focus on the 5K by also doing the 1,500. As to being "fragile" I don't think so...she has been running track since grade school and the Achilles injury has been her only injury.
1968 Kip Keino won the 1500 gold, was outkicked by Gammoudi in the 5000 as Kip got silver. In the 10,000 Kip was with the lead when he got a stomach cramp with 3 laps to go and "tumbled onto the grass, obviously in pain" according to Track and Field News. Kip said, "I had a stomach cramp. This is the second time this happened to me in races."
Cool for Schweizer I guess, but it doesn't move the needle just because she's an American when someone already did this the last two World Championships
Probably the dumbest logic....and then you keep saying that you are "right" lol
"1 other person in history did it so that means it's not impressive"
First, I want to acknowledge that the truth has come out and she is not doing this. Thanks Rojo for once again demonstrating that you do not need to be that smart to attend an Ivy.
Now my response to the low-intelligence post above. I disrespectfully disagree with your sentiments as is the correct way of looking at it:
"Lets get excited about someone attempting to do something that's already been done, but at a lower level."
BTW, this is my second post on my thread, so to say I "keep saying it" further demonstrates low attentive and cognitive abilities.
I'm still waiting for someone to win gold in both the 100m and marathon at a world's or Olympics. Until then no doubnle will impress me.
Marathon and either shot put, discus or decathlon would be a much more impressive double. Just to qualify and be accepted to compete at the US trials would be amazing.
Schweizer doesn't have a prayer of making the US team in the 1,500, so this is an irrelevant discussion. She simply wanted in an event at the US Championships and this will give her a chance to work on her closing speed.
Schweizer is entered and on the start lists for both the 1500 and 5000. 1500 heats are Thursday at 18:53, final Saturday at 13:40 and the 5000 Sunday at 13:18. Of course, she has already qualified for the 10,000 by winning the US trial on May 27. Maybe she's trying to do a "Hassan".
