What do the pros do for something like 5th ave mile for shoes? Track distance on the road. Just 5k/10k carbon shoe? Or old timey flat?

Bump. I've been wondering about this also.
Shoe enthusiasts seem to generally agree that traditional road shoes are better than carbon plate for road miles, but what the elites are actually wearing seems to be standard fare. Definitely Next% 2 on every Nike athlete.
Personally, I raced 4 road miles last year, 3 in Streak LTs and 1 in the Alphafly. I definitely thought the Streak LT felt more appropriate than the Alphafly given the speed of the race, but probably can't rule out the VF based on that.
LOL. I literally watched that exact 5th ave mile and tried to slow it down to see what shoes they were wearing. Thanks for the pic. So...what the heck happened to the NB 5280 that was designed for this race and JS set the record in? I dont see an equivalent replacement at all? Is that because everything is foam centric now as opposed to carbon centric? The 5280 was sort of minimalist track shoe for road. Clearly that died out. So people are wearing "marathon/1/2 marathon" marketed shoes for a street mile?
Did I see some Takumi Sens on the adidas guys? Or maybe they were adios'. What was Hiltz wearing?
I do not see any nike on Top3 2019 & 2021 5th Avenue Mile runners...
Looking through the field there is a variety of shoes including some non-vaporfly nikes.
If you are a really good pro, like Jenny Simpson, then New Balance (your shoe sponsor) might pull all the stops and design you a new shoe for road mile races.
