You do realize the 10k champs were a month ago, right? He also ran a 5k last week. He could easily have run USAs this weekend, but chose not to. I personally think that's fine, it's his choice, but don't act like BTC would've been given a pass.
As another poster said, if McGorty weren't racing this weekend I would not care one bit. Why take a stance that you don't even believe in?
To show the ridiculousness of it. Did you have a problem with Fisher breaking the 10k AR and skipping USA indoors? Many here did.
This is one of the worst takes I’ve ever seen. Why would any BTC critics be upset about OAC doing exactly what we all wish the Bowerman athletes would do? You know, like actually showing up to the Diamond League and racing against the world’s best instead of staying home to run time trials.
You're telling me this board would give BTC a free pass for skipping USAs to run a 2nd rate diamond league a week before? Really? If Klecker wanted to race the "world's best" he should've run Rome.
That 5k was not second rate. BTC wouldn’t have raced there. They’d have set up their own time trial in Portland with their only competition being the wavelights, not actual Africans. That’s what BTC gets ripped apart for, not for skipping USAs.

How has that worked out for them so far this year? Which other Nike groups should he join? How about Union, whose coach used to be the assistant to a convicted doper, and who have no 5k-10k guys. Sounds like he really has a choice.
Of course he has a choice. And choosing to continue to run for BTC will carry criticism. I don't see why you can't understand that.
Yeah a choice between $hit and diarrhea. Some "choice". You've obviously never had to make tough decisions in your life. I'm sure he's weighed his options extensively.

I do wish they would race more (like, actual races). I've no problem with people skipping indoors to focus on outdoors, though that adds pressure to the outdoors world championships. But I think you are missing the point on why BTC has additional scrutiny in the last, I don't know, 14 months.

Look at the people who ran Oslo. Outside the 4 Ethiopians it was very weak. Rome would've been the race to go to.
USAs this weekend will be a more competitive than Oslo. You're telling me BTC didn't get $hit for skipping USA indoors? Really?

Why are you falsely projecting life experiences onto me for pointing out the very obvious fact that he is choosing to continue to run for a team that harbors a convicted doper and that comes with additional criticism from fans of a clean sport?

This is exactly my problem. Now everything BTC does is vilified, whether deserved or not. Anyone who is associated with them is now forever tainted, regardless of if they support Shelby or not. This is not fair. They are in an unwinnable position.

You're acting as if there's a simple, good choice for him to make here.

You defended Fisher skipping the 3k at WCs to run a time trial, so you’re the last person who should be criticizing Klecker for skipping the 5k at USAs (when he is already qualified for the 10k and never had any intention of doubling) to chase sub-13 in a real race on the DL circuit.
Fans like myself want to see the big names in BTC running DL races more than once or twice a year. I would give any of them a pass if they were in Klecker or Monson’s position and made the same choice.

Of course he had some intention of doubling. He was signed up for the race! Answer honestly, as a fan of the sport: would you really have preferred to watch Klecker run 13:04 in Oslo last weekend or run the USA 5k championships this weekend?
You're acting as if there's a simple, good choice for him to make here.
I never said that having principles is simple.
Right, because staying with BTC means he doesn't have "principles". It's that black and white, isn't it? Either you have principles or you don't. Got it. Let the whipping continue.
It's a good point, but Moh Ahmed is on a different level than the athletes I mentioned and Klecker for that matter. He also doesn't have to run Nationals to make Canadian teams and just gets selected on time. As a result, he races a lot more on the circuit than other Bowerman guys. Clearly he places value on it.
Do you really think Klecker is good enough to shrug off a 10,000 like Moh did and be a medal contender in the 5? I don't think so. I think Fisher has hopefully gotten to that level of fitness this year.
And no I wasn't saying that Klecker ran great in the 10,000 last year and necessarily will this year. But I don't think he's at the level where I'd even feel comfortable believing he made the 5k final with the double. Fisher and Schweizer are the only athletes that I feel that way about.

Smart move by OAC and Ritz. They got some fast 5k's in against International competition. No need to run the two qualifiers at USA's with only a month to go.
Two?? USATF schedule only shows the one 5K final. No semis.
The women's final + the men's final = two 5k finals.

I was merely pointing out an omission/factually inaccurate statement.

Well I’m afraid they made that bed.
Fine. I guess we'll never agree on the appropriate response. Whatever. I still like most of the athletes and will continue to follow/cheer for them. You guys don't have to.
