Often during heavy lifting, especially with squats, one can be using the muscles in the pelvic region and stressing them, which can cause an unintentional orgasm. This has been referred to as the coregasm. However, unknown to many, this can also happen while running. It has been known to happen to runners at the end of a race. Sometimes the all out effort of the core and the entire body can cause an orgasm in runners.
According to Emily Cronkleton (her article that is medically reviewed and can be found at https://www.healthline.com/health/coregasm):
“A coregasm is an orgasm that happens while you’re doing a core exercise or workout. When you engage your muscles to stabilize your core, you may also end up contracting the pelvic floor muscles that can be essential to achieving orgasm.
This may sound unusual, but scientists have recognized this occurrence since the 1950s. In medical literature, a “coregasm” is referred to as an exercise-induced orgasm (EIO) or exercise-induced sexual pleasure (EISP).”
The article continues to share that it can happen while running, and, in males, does not require an erection for ejaculation.
As a strong running community, we must normalize the coregasm. Although perhaps weird, you should not be uncomfortable if you hear an opponent or teammate moaning next you as you cross the finish line. If you hear pleasurable screams while working out, don’t freak out, and just know that the person is experiencing a coregasm. Even profuse squirting of semen near the end of a race should be seen as normal. Whether you hear heavy breathing, growling, or moaning at the end of a race, just keep running and you too might experience the wonderful sensation of a coregasm.
Together, we must NORMALIZE THE COREGASM
