Yeah me too. But I was too lazy to go search for it.

Hillardt was pretty legit, had a 3.33 PR back then.. when the WR was 3.30/31..
Mike Boit from Kenya actually ran 3.28 the following year on the same course.
All that training paid off. $14,000
bump
Epic.

Bump to the best thread of all-time on LetsRun.
Remember when David Torrence was just known as Big Wave? Now he's my favorite runner. Congrats on the A, go get em' at the trials!
And check out David's comments about his downhill Mile at

I have a comment about the 2nd place finisher in this 2009 event? Is that the same Jon Rankin? I read about his plight with a kidney condition and hope he considers his stem cell effort a first priority.
life long health and fitness!
You're talking about a different race.
This thread is in reference to an unofficial downhill mile race that Torrence put on in Berkeley while still in college. If you look back to the first thread, it happened in 2005.
The 2009 race was the first US Road Mile Championships, where Torrence beat Rankin and won $14k. I've heard Rankin is doing well in terms of his kidney, but haven't seen anything from his racing recently.
There's a downhill race somewhere inillinois called the foot mechanics mile. Lukas Verzbicas went 3:55 on it last year and a few others have broken four. Nobody fell and it all seemed to work pretty well.
Was this guy David Torrence?

The youtube one has messed up sound for me
This is EPIC! What history... I just ran 4:01 in a downhill 1600 the other day (one leg of a relay, 70ft vertical drop) and I am freggin' slow, it makes a huge difference.
Lets go Torrence! Its time to make an Olympic Team!
Bump. Thank you, David Torrence, for being awesome.
At falmouth whenever I see you I yell BIG WAVE!This year it happened to be around a quarter of a mile into the road race. You're easily my favorite pro. So easy to root for. keep it up BIG WAVE!
Bells Mills Rd in Philly would be a great place for a downhill mile. From Ridge Ave to Forbidden Drive is exactly a mile and you lose about 220 feet elevation.
David Torrence's latest epic run, challenging Kiplagat in the 4x1500, reminded me of this, one of my favorite LR threads of all time...
Cheers to DT.
An epic thread for sure.
Anyone have any suggestions of downhill mile races that are available? I'm looking to do one.
