Coevett, I'm not sure if I want to upvote or downvote your comment.
Yes there are places around the world where homosexuality is illegal and the laws in the west have been more accepting recently. Although the west appears to be tolerant of gays -why should anyone have to be 'tolerated'- gays are still ridiculed, marginalized, and made fun of in the west. There are still hate crimes and instances of gays being lynched not too long ago in the US.
So? As long as people keep treating this as something to be "wowed" by, homophobia will continue. Stop making it seem so revolutionary that someone comes out these days. It's 2022 what rock have you been living under? OMG, gay people exist, news flash! Seriously, stop. Stop stigmatizing homosexuality.
It's celebs like Kelly Holmes and Colin Jackson who make a big show of coming out (after 'hiding it' for so long) that do this. An entire month spent to 'PRIDE' does this. There is absolutely no discrimination against homosexuals in the West. If anything, it's heterosexuals who are stigmatized. It's the same identity politics as BLM, trying to stigmatize and stir up hate against the majority. Meanwhile, gay teens are hung by the rope in places like Iran, and homosexuality is illegal in nearly all of Africa, but it's the evil white heterosexual male that is the problem.
You nailed it....Things have reached the point where gays, trans etc. are worshipped and if you don't worship them you are a homophobe..

WRONG. You're a transphobe or homophobe if you don't believe that they should have the same rights as others. It has nothing to do with worship. It has to do with mutual respect.

YOU may wish you could do away with their existence but they're here to stay. So get used to it. Become a better person.

I actually disagree. I am waiting for the day that these things won't be newsworthy, and we are getting closer and closer to that point. But I actually disagree that the "wowed" leads to homophobia. I think that the persistent homophobia leads to people recognizing and admiring the courage it STILL takes for people to come out as LGBT.
Here's some things you can do, if you don't like these stories.
1. Don't be homophobic--because if you are annoyed with these stories, you have to consider you might be a little homophobic. Usually people are neutral or like "oh good for them".
2. Don't assume everyone is straight. That's the issue. We sort of default everyone to being straight. So when they come out as gay, it's news. If we didn't assume it all the time, it wouldn't be news all the time.
Lol could u imagine in 2022 still believing in these kinds of fantasy stories?
Right. The amount of ignorance is beyond astounding. Ultimately we're just a stack of hormones, compounds, cells and various chemical reactions and such. Based on that randomization we simply react to environmental stimuli in different ways. People try to make humans seem like more than they really are when in reality what we are boils down to science.
People in more tolerant cultures tend to be happier overall from my observation. Homosexuality, or rather, transgenderism is ingrained in many Pacific Islander cultures, Southeast Asian cultures (katoeys/ladyboys) and in countries like Colombia. And the people tend to be a lot happier in general. Inclusivity brings happiness and lowers blood pressure. Hate raises blood pressure and prematurely ages your blood vessels. Choose wisely.

Thank you for advocating that we stop stigmatizing homosexuality. As a gay man, I wish people's sexual orientation was as insignificant as people's eye color. If that were the case, coming out wouldn't be such a big deal. Unfortunately, that's not the world we live in. Even in the West, being gay is still difficult. Yes, there is much greater acceptance now than in the past, and in recent years we have gained some important legal protections, however, many serious challenges remain here in the US:
There is still violence against gays. The 2020 FBI Hate Crimes Report found that hate crimes based on sexual orientation represent 16.7% of all hate crimes, the third largest category after race and religion.
HRC responded to troubling federal data showing unacceptably high levels of hate crimes — and an increase in those targeting LGBTQ people — as disclosed by the FBI today.
In a recently adopted resolution, the ABA sharply criticizes recent legislation restricting LGBTQ people’s access to foster care and adoption services.
The annual number of anti-LGBTQ bills to have been filed has skyrocketed over the past several years, from 41 in 2018 to 238 in less than three months of this year.
The Republican Party of Texas has been engulfed in controversy over its stance on LGBTQ+ issues, including excluding Log Cabin Republicans of Texas — an organization that works “to make the Republican Party more inclusive, pa...
For all these reasons and more, coming out remains extremely difficult for many people. It takes a lot of courage to come out. Thus, coming out, pride parades, and support from straight people continue to be very important. The more visibility of out people and more examples of acceptance that we have, the better.
