Hocker had a tremendous season in 2021 which included running NCAA and ended with a 6th place finish at the Olympics in August. Would he have run faster had he been a pro?
If Mike Smith started a pro team that included some NAU guys, would he train them differently than what he had them do in college?
What’s the difference between coaching an NCAA championship and a pro runner?
College coaches have very different knowledge, incentives and opportunities to professional coaches. For example: College coaches specialize in helping younger, immature (physically, emotionally and tactically) athletes mature. College coaches have more control over their runners than pro coaches. And college coaches have very different incentives; few are as invested in the long run development of their athletes as pro coaches. College coaches do not have deal with agents. And so on.
At the same time, pro runners are very different to college runners. No more classes, different seasons, and so on. A

honest question, what if your college runner is better (mentally, emotionally, tactically) than your pro runner? how will the training look? will the pro runner do the same workout as the college runner?
also based on diljeet's posts, her pro group does not train together with her college runners (maybe courtney joined on some workouts)

Of course they don't. That would be a violation of the NCAA (colllege) rules, which only allow alumni to work out "occasional" practice session with the team. (NCAA rules prohibit non-alums from working out with a college team, period.)
If I understand correctly, Kately Tuohy won the NCAA championships with 15:18.39. The winner at USATF came in with 15:49.13. Am I missing it? Something seems amiss. I know it was a hot day, and the race announcers continued to say how slow the race was, but that's a pretty big difference in times.

They all basically jogged for the first 3200, and then a few of the top runners took off.

Just make a pro runner a volunteer assistant coach and then they can train with the college team.
Tuohy fans will never admit anything. This thread is embarrassing because she missed the record by 1 minute. It just proves that she is not national class. Her fans don't realize that she is merely a good college runner.
