I’m sure there are other examples but what could be the training/physiology explanation of these extreme outliers on just a few days a week of running? Is it talent or maybe something unique about female physiology and might there be a lot of talented women running too much? It feels like their success goes against everything I was told about distance running when I was young and I struggle to see how a HS or college coach is supposed to identify these super responders who don’t need to run to be fast. Anyone have an understanding of how ANYONE can run 15:20s on 2 runs a week plus cross training? We hear runners all the time say they haven’t gotten in enough speed work or are still rebuilding their base after an injury etc. but these girls seem to be doing more with way way way less and I would love to understand this better.
