One of the things I hate about this board is how caught up everyone gets in the biggest names. Nico Young is awful but everyone fell so in love with him they forgot about Cole Sprout. Today he showed everyone he’s still a star. I don’t think Nico would have gotten 4th today had he run in Cole’s shoes, but even if you think he has it’s time to admit the gap really isn’t as wide as some people on this board would have you believe. Stanford has two guys in Cole Sprout and Ky Robinson who are on the same level as Nico and it’s time people on this board stop pretending Nico young is Jacob Ingebrigston. Nico is great but it’s time to give other people their flowers from that high school class. The gap has closed.

To be honest, a bit lame he won wearing Vaporflys, if that’s the case. Reminds me of when Harvard was able to kit their entire team in Vaporflys (might have been Alphaflys) last minute for the bizarre road XC regionals in 2019…and won by 30 points against teams that did not have the shoe tech, at least not across their entire team if I recall.
They’re banned for pro competition for a reason and should be banned in the NCAA as well. Those things really do make a difference, more than the spike tech.

As a non American who doesn't follow the NCAA rulebook too closely, how come he was able to wear ineligible footwear in the meet? NCAA track doesn't follow WA regulations? Seems bizarre to me.
the post is a little over the top but comparing careers its very likely Cole and Nico leave this weekend with the same number of all - americans. Cole's highest performance in the NCAA will be his 4th place finish. As of now (very likely will change Friday) Nicos is 3rd. How can you say Nico has been so much better?
Jacobs has looked great all year - except for indoor NCAA championships. He has a distance engine and good speed. I think he closed his last 800 in 1:57? He is a legit senior but due to Covid he is staying another year. Guarantee that Josh Methner will be on the same level next year. Another Footlocker champ. 28:40 as a legit soph and he will go under 28 next year. If only Nuguse didn’t keep getting injured this year, ND would have won the 1500, too. Yes, former Domer XC captain so I’m biased. Go Irish!

They aren’t banned in NCAA competition. Many of the field wore them at regionals. Literally anyone else in the field could have worn them. The dude fell down at 3km, got up and still won fair and square.
Could he have qualified for USAs if he had ran the QT? In the UK, you can't wear Vaporflies on the track at any level - even half-baked amateur league meets - just in case someone runs a championship QT. I'm not necessarily against being able to wear road shoes in the track, but those are the rules at pro level and it's weird that the NCAA championships isn't governed in the same way as a pro meet given that these athletes are running pro times and many will have ambitions to make it to USAs and race against pro's.

Um, what? Nico Young has run 13:11 as a 19 year old—I’d say that’s far from “awful.” And then at the end of your post you say “Nico is great” so even you must know you’re FOS, if you can guess the acronym.
You butchered the name Jakob Ingebrigtsen.
If you wanted to say you think Stanford’s Ky Robinson (Australia) and Cole Sprout are underrated, you could have just said so.
Dylan Jacobs turned on the jets in the last 30 seconds to become a national champion, and Notre Dame's first 10,000 meter champion since 2001. Watch Jacobs' ...

Fun cheat world we now live in. Proving once again that current shoe tech is turning track into a circus clown show.

Evolve or die, I bet when cinder tracks were replaced with all weather all those old dudes complained about records going down.
I watched his win at ACC's and I was impressed with how strong he looked, turning the screw until he dropped Wildschutt who is a very strong runner in his own right. Always good to see a Footlocker champion continuing to progress and win titles in college.
Proof that footlocker > NXN haha
Not sure what you mean about FL vs NXN, but Jacobs was 13th at NXN in 2017 right before he won FL. But then again, Claudia Lane won back to back FL. Hocker of course was 2nd at NXN and won FL in 2018. Both races attract a lot of talent.
