No, doping steals from fans. It is fraud. Simply changing DL rules to allow a single false start for the field would be a level playing field. Don’t be so rigid. Every fan paying money today was bummed that Trayvon was dq’d.
They lost the #1 sprinter in the race and as I’m typing this Zharnell Hughes, the #1 Brit got dqd, would it be better for the fans if they just let them run? even if they don’t count in standings.
or allow 1 false start for field at meet promotors discretion or something? Keep strict false start rule for Championship races.
I don't care if this is your site.
Stop being a fanboy for your favorites, advocating slippery slope legislation for those you like, and slamming those you don't care for.
Be the journalist you claim to be...and improve the sport. Don't create factions within the sport to serve your purposes.
Stop with the names, the names, the names. Not every event has to have the names.

I agree. The journalist integrity on this site is pretty abysmal. You don't see these posts when an African or Brit gets disqualified. They've been happy to throw the book at non-American DSD athletes and the Russians, yet constantly question rules once their glorious American stars suffer the consequences.
Who benefited from his DQ? Bromell couldn't race. Fans didn't get to see the perhaps best sprinter in the world. Organisers got nothing for their appearance fee. World Athletics ended up with a watered down field for their blue ribband event. Completely stupid for a race with no heats to qualify

Track needs all the help it can get, save that one false start rule for HS/NCAA at the pro level ya get one then on the field. Fans need to see the stars compete if possible.
No good solution here. This is a pretty rare occurrence. Bromell clearly has some overseas complex, and Hughes is a mess in this dept. (4/5 false starts now). No, don’t change the rules, but sprinters be better. It’s a raw deal for fans, but it’s in the control of the athletes.

This is off-the-charts, flat out ridiculous.
Have you forgotten that years ago, in his comeback meet, even Usain Bolt had to sit because of a false start?
If we want a traditional technicality switched because fans want to see a favorite, then we may as well run track like.figure skating and gymnastics, where regardless of qualifying, USATF and/or the Diamond League can just hand pick an all-star squad to race so that it's only fan favorites.
Then, take it further. No surprises. No Bryce Hoppel. No Bob Kempainen in the marathon. No Kostas Kenteris or Wayde Van Niekerk.
I would allow them to race a 2nd race, right after the initial one. If they beat the winning time they win a donut or something. At least they don't waste that trip for nothing.

Nobody let Hembrick fight.
Don't talk wasted trips until you explain Bromell in terms of Hembrick.
whenever a US athlete fails to stay within the the rules and regulations of the sport then the problem is always with those rules and regulations not the athlete.
Are you saying we should disregard the rules for the best athletes? What kind of morals is that? Rules should apply for everyone.
I am essentially saying the rules should be changed for the Diamond League. I’d rather have Bromell run than a field without him. Save the Dq for a meet they matters .
Go ahead and stop away prize money and points if you want but let him run. I guess that would be a bit weird if the guy who was first across the line wasn’t the winner but the fans would have been more entertained if Bromell ran.
So we should allow cheating through false starts? Is that fair? Why in earth let people run if they are not a part of the competition?

Who benefitted? His competitors. And their fans. This is a competition. I get that more and more sporting events is more circus than competition these days but lets not turn DL into it as well.
DQ is for stopping people from doing a false start. No DQ and you destroy the competition.
Those who DQ'd broke the rules and should be DQ'd, according to the current rules.
How changing this to a discussion of whether the current rules are good? The rules used to be that one false start was allowed. I don't remember all the changes, but maybe at some point it was one false start per person, then it was first false start charged to the field, then next false starter was out. I didn't like it when the rules were changed to one false start and you're out. I think the justification was that it made the meets move along better and made for better TV viewing and scheduling. But does it really make for better TV? I don't agree with that. The sprints are already really short events, and they already show multiple replays on TV. I liked the old false start rules better.
