They really ought to just to just let Sahlman into some fast heats from now on. He’s got more potential than the C-level pros they put in the main heat instead of him, and would make the races more interesting.
Have ya'll really stuck a fork in Hoppel's career already? This guy is only 2-3 years removed from getting 4th at Dohan world's and having great 2020 on the circuit. His indoor season wasn't fantastic but he at least went home from Belgrade with a medal. Jeez
I don’t think Murphy will ever break 1:43 again. It’s been almost 6 years since he ran his 1:42.93 PB. I hope I’m wrong.
6 months ago I would have thought Jewett and/or Brandon Miller might be the future of U.S. 800 running, but neither (especially Jewett) has looked as good as I would have hoped.
Shane Streich looked like he was breaking through indoors, but hasn’t run nearly as well this outdoor season.
There’s definitely still hope for the 24 year old Bryce Hoppel, but he hasn’t exactly made good on his promise from 2019-2020.
Brazier I still have high hopes for, especially considering that 1:13.97i 600 he ran this year. Hopefully his season opener in Doha was an anomaly (already it was an anomaly in that it was the slowest DL 800 ever run).
Agree. Murphy will win some races but he won't see 1:42 again. Weight lifting has been proven to slow runners down.
When Murphy ran his 1:45 last week he looked relaxed and like he still had a lot in the tank. He also looked like it took a lot less effort than the 1:43.17 he ran last summer in Eugene. We will get a good idea of where he is after tomorrow’s Diamond League meet. I won’t be surprised if he dips under 1:43 this season.
Like I said, check the start list. I’m well aware what heat he WAS in.
Damn, that's unfortunate. If it's another injury then it really doesn't look good for his career.
No, it's not an injury. But rumor has it that he is going to plant potatos instead of racing DL on home soil. Instead of becoming the first sub 1:40 runner and earning millions of dollars he is going to plant what ? Most likely he is also an age cheat and already well in his fourties.
For those of you saying Jewett is the future...he's already almost 26 yrs old. He's older than Hoppel and Brazier, and nearly as old as Murphy. He was in college for 6 yrs (2 at UC Irvine, 4 at USC).

I will double down on my statement making the thread. Hoppel only .2 off Cade Flatt’s time yesterday and Murphy nowhere to be found. Not looking great for worlds this year
USA will be top four at Worlds in Eugene - bank on it. No other result is even possible, unless others are cheating. Simple as that - suspected dopers won't be allowed in the country.
The men's 800 is the most open event in T&F right now. There's no extraordinary talent, which could put up to a dozen guys in the frame for gold. It's not just the US, it's right across the event
There has NEVER been this much talent in the 800m. NEVER!
