Many coaches leave programs without filing a lawsuit, because they know it will be death of their coaching career. Beth has a good enough resume to get hired again and a lawsuit makes it messy. Just because she didn't file, doesn't mean she didn't have just cause. And we don't know what took place, she could of been nicely paid out and let go without cause. Also, most AD make changes after conference meets so they have more time to make a new hire during the post season and can get the top candidates. This is normal and says nothing about what took place.
Correct. Also she can still file a complaint with EEOC and sue if she or her attorney thinks they have a case. I and 99.9% of the people don't know the intimate details of her interactions with the team and administration.
If I had to guess right now who the new coach is going to be I would choose Dana Boone at UCF. The Tennessee AD came from UCF and has already shown that he wants to take the coaches he had there with him to UT. Her women's team won indoors and outdoors this year in the AAC so it's not a bogus hire based on results either.

The AAC? Wow. Big powerhouse conference... They should hire her and pay her $500k to be 11th at the SEC meet and 59th at NCAAs.

That's correct, oby. I know one of the runners who was dismissed from the team that fall when she arrived as a frosh, she was a UT recruit (400IH). I believe the other girls (sprinters) were as well.
3 years ago 01/05/2019 6:40am CST re: RogueMoose ReplyBack To Index I don’t get a kick out of criticizing people who are just trying to do their job, even if I don’t particularly like or agree with the way they do it. But I have no problem saying that Beth Alford-Sullivan’s pulling the scholarships of kids at the University of Tennessee before they were allowed to compete wins the gold medal for bad coaching. She’s a disgrace.
The fact that I said three years ago that I thought Beth Alford Sullivan is a disgrace does not make her controversial. I said what I did because I believed that her actions violated the first Canon of Ethics of the USTFCCCA, which states that a coach should not putting winning ahead of the best interest of the team’s athletes. I actually had discussions with higher ups in the USTFCCCA about this issue and was told that it was unlikely that a head coach would take such actions unless those actions were approved of, or even ordered by, his or her athletic director, which would seem consistent with the “cutthroat” reputation of the SEC. This point, as well as the fact that her original contract was extended, suggests that her termination was not related to this scenario.
She’s still a disgrace-and her supervisors at the University of Tennessee may be as bad or worse than she is.
I can't say I am too surprised by this type of behavior out of her... http://www.knoxnews.com/govolsxtra/other-sports/parents-angered-after-daughters-tennessee-track-careers-come-to-abrupt-end_66250381
Danny White is as cutthroat as they come. From my time at Buffalo, he ran out every single person that didn’t believe in his decisions and ideas. Our culture was terrible. If there is anything to know about Tennessee’s AD, it’s his history and revolutionary “theories”. From my connections, Tennessee will split the program into Mens and Womens. I don’t know the short list, but wouldn’t count out:
Boone (UCF), Jenkins (USF), Watson (Tx), Hall (Kentucky), Harnden (UT)
I don’t know BAS, but she was let go because of their intended restructure. Based on results, they were inconsistent, but she had several successful teams and athletes at Tennessee. They just beat some very good teams one week ago.
Sacoor was apparently cut from the team due to issues regarding private coaching and wanting to miss NCAAs for international competition. Plus he severely underperformed while at the program. Same goes with Wilson and Watson.
Bad take all around. Reminder, she is the director and the distance coach... Didn't play a role in developing those athletes, they left on their own terms for their own reasons
But the majority of those athletes you mentioned have went on to do hell if a lot better elsewhere. Britton just completed a suicide double at SEC’s and won both races. Tennessee got a TCU transfer with potential and she has yet to PR. The AD should spare no expense when seeking a coach cause they need the best to change things around even with their recruiting.
