Why are they not running these races so the wind is at athlete's back final 200? 800s finishing into a direct headwind. Mt Sac Relays never starts from that side for this very reason.

1:48.80 for Colin Sahlman. Cooper wins the heat with a time of 1:47.90
They say you only have 1 move in the 800. Don't tell that to Colin Sahlman. Made a big move between 300 and 400 and had to run much of the race in lane 2. THen made a big move agan at the end. He looked great but Teare was way better than everyone else.
I really wish Teare was in heat 1. He was the class of the field.
Good prep for Bowerman for Sahlman. Got a little anxious before 400 and made some unnecessary moves, but he is young and will learn.
Ha salhman would have made it a closer race if he didnt run the entire race in lane 2. He is gonna scare 353 next week
lmao all of these so-called "pros" who lost to sahlman should retire, imagine being on one of the best pro teams in the us and getting beaten by a high schooler by almost 2 seconds in an 800... looking at you windle
You have to think Ben Thomas wanted him in the slower heat right? I find it hard to believe Teare couldnt have gotten into heat 1, considering he may be the best 1500m runner in the US right now.
Ok, heat 2 was lame. Teare would have won. He was not stressed.
Let's fly to California and spend thousands to broadcast a meet with a bunch of 800 studs only for them all to run 1:47. Why are these times so slow so far?
Are we sure the track is 400 meters? Any chance this track may be the opposite of Gary Martin's HS track?
They should fly them to PA to race on Gary's HS track!
Jewett looks like he is wearing a 50 pond weight vest.
So good for Teare. He’s not only making the 1500 team, he’s going to beat Kerr and Hoare and Hocker at the wcs. His time has come.
Sahlman makes two moves in an 800 and runs a faster time than an Olympian (Jewett). Is this Jewett's season opener or has he just not found form this year? I was expecting him to take it out with the pacer, but he was far back in the pack.
No, the Ray Charles gig just isn’t working this year.
Good even effort for Engels, hung back and finished strong for pretty even split. Slight negative. Teare looked strong but only .3 seconds faster than Craig.
I think he has potential for a bounce back outdoor season with the demise of centro and neguse in the 1500.
Why did both the women who were in the front through the 400 DNF? I'm not on the live stream, did anybody see why.
Sahlman is a terrible racer. He spent way too much time out in lane two, like his prior race, just giving away time and distance. For comparison, Cooper Teare and Sahlman were essentially side-by-side with 400 to go. Teare stayed in lane 1 on the curve with 350 to go, while Sahlman swung way wide. Down the back straight, Teare stayed inside and moved up as space became available, while Sahlman was solidly in lane two (so far out that Teare passed him easily on the inside during this stretch). Then with 150 to go, Teare goes from lane 1 to lane 2 and totally drops the hammer around everyone, while Sahlman goes from lane 2, to lane 1, to lane 3 (at least that was on the last straight, so there was no lost distance). For young Sahlman, this seems like a case of being so fast relative to your peers that you never have a chance to develop racing smarts. I hope someone teaches him that lesson, and he pays attention, or he's going to be pissing away time and distance in bigger races against people he can't kick down (like Teare in this race).
Did Jewett have an organ removed this winter. He looks like he’s missing a lung.
Happily, the world doesn't revolve around the East Coast. ;-)
Teare is also 22(?) and just spent the last 4 years getting experience in the NCAA racing system. Sahlman will get there over time, most HS'ers are dumb racers, you just dont realize bc the best ones are so far ahead of their peers. I actually respect some of the dumb moves he makes, kid has a ton of heart and no fear.
Sahlman was great. I find myself rooting against him, but then I realize it’s for absolutely NO reason. I need to get over it. I’m having reaction formation against the NP runners, and they are blameless. Go Colin!!
