nate is my favorite fighter in the mma and it's not even close. surely cade will never come up with something like "nobody knows what the f a gazelle is anyways. this is america, get it right."
i wouldn't be upset though if cade gets the record and in the post race interview borrows from nate, saying "i ain't surprised mfers!" and then just walks away.
For sure he’s talented and I’m rooting for him to run well but I strongly prefer humility. Having a special talent doesn’t make someone a special person.
I agree that it doesn’t make him a special person. I’ll echo what someone else said - hopefully as he ages he’ll become a bit more humble. His talk really doesn’t bother me. As long as he can back it up, fine. I prefer talkers to be more humorous though. People that laugh and have fun. Noah Lyles comes to mind. Even someone like Shaq. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Flatt crack a smile.
As for the record - I doubt that he will break it in a field against HS runners only. In a field vs pros and with a pacer, he has a chance. Good for him. Records are meant to be broken.

He is really running out of chances to break the HS 800 record. I agree that he won't do it against a HS field. He will only do it with a pacer or against professionals. Kentucky's state track meet is June 2-4. After that time, I don't believe that any of the post-season meets would count toward the record. He certainly is capable of breaking the record, though. I'm just not sure that he will.
You're right that he could get a sense of humor. His affect is pretty Flat(t). Noah Lyles is a crack up.
I actually think he will find a race to break it, he was really close. I do think perspective is in order here. The record run will be a record, bur Michael Granville's record was run solo in a California State mee..lol, now that was absurd
52.54 meaning almost ideal pacing. 53.97 was his second lap.
yeah pretty ideal pacing, but was in that second pack that got gapped so he was running in the wind (and in lane 2) more than necessary. add in the weather and the fact this is his first time really being tested (i think?) and suddenly sub-1:45 is in the cards.
I rewatched the race and think this is a good assessment. If he runs perfectly yesterday, he gets the record. However, I wouldn’t be so quick to project such amazing times onto this kid. I’ve seen too many flash in the pans, especially with the 800, as they tend to be more prone to injury and overtraining. Sometimes you have to catch lightning in a bottle. I’m not even convinced he will get the high school record. He surely has the potential to, but, that doesn’t mean it’s automatic.

The thing is he isn't an angry or arrogant person. He doesn't come off as aggressive or necessarily nefarious to me. He's confident and has given real results. He walks the talk. I don't also know where all this talk about him being 19 stems from. A world athletics date? It's like a birth certificate witch hunt.

I believe Granville's HSR run was run in the semi-finals of the CAlif state champs
