I thought they did research and found out due to health care and other benefits that the US womens team receives, that the women's team was already paid more?
I didn't argue they get 1/1,000,000 the views. I am again illustrating a point. More views = more money. If you are getting less views, you are making less money.
Imagine arguing that USWNT gets “1/1,000,000 the views” of USMNT.

Is that the case with USWNT versus men?
Is there a huge difference in viewing figures?
Is that the basis for how international players get paid?
U.S. women soccer players, including Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan, have reached a $24 million settlement with the U.S. Soccer Federation following a lawsuit...
one way to look at it. And the name calling on here is truly pathetic. If someone doesn’t agree with you then make an argument. Your argument looks no stronger calling someone names despite what you may think.

That video is two months and does not pertain to the AGREEMENT just made.
Although I'm considered a "lib" by this boards standards (I am a left-leaning moderate in fact), this type of stuff really bothers me. The US women should not be paid equally. They aren't as good. I don't want to hear that they do better than the men at the World Cup. The women's US national team couldn't beat a good high school boys soccer team. There's also the part that women don't even watch or care about women's soccer. More women watch men's soccer than women's soccer. My wife is an Arsenal and Real Madrid fan, we have 2 daughters who play youth soccer, and she refuses to sit and watch a women's game on TV. Says its too boring.
This equal pay stuff is such nonsense. Be as good or as entertaining before you ask for equal pay.
BTW, women’s soccer is kind of a joke outside the US. I lived with a couple English gals when there in college, and they laughed at the idea that soccer is much more than a man’s game.

<sigh>
The US women's team represents great value for a number of reasons:
- they're outstandingly good compared to their peers worldwide
- they're great role models for healthy, aspirational lifestyles in an obese country
- they generate clicks (yes, positive and negative) and advertising revenue
- if the aim is to inspire future generations of girls to play, we have to give them role models, incentives and a clear path.

You do understand that the women are NOT getting equal pay compared to men who play for clubs like Arsenal and Real Madrid? You get that right?
You do understand that this is for international appearances ONLY and that the US men’s team AGREED to the terms?
You do also understand that the money elite professional men get for playing for their country is peanuts compared to what they make for their club? You get that that hasn’t changed, right?

I thought they did research and found out due to health care and other benefits that the US womens team receives, that the women's team was already paid more?
This whole issue arose out of how the US National Teams, men and women, negotiated their contracts. The men wanted less security, more upside, fewer benefits. The women wanted more security, gave up some upside, more benefits and healthcare perks.
The situation was poorly managed by Gulati and Cordeiro. All they needed to do was simply tear up the previously negotiated contract and renegotiate. Instead they insisted on honoring the existing contract and then issued cannon fodder for the SJW by responding to USWNT lawsuit with: In the document, the USSF claimed that women "do not perform equal work requiring equal skill [and] effort" while the ability of players on the senior men's national team, it said, was "materially influenced by the level of certain physical attributes such as speed and strength."
Once that was issued, the women, rightly so, used it to gain the upper hand in negotiations and took the matter to the public.
I am proud of our USWNT and their accomplishments and am glad they have achieved "equal pay".
Saying that, of course they are more successful on the international stage than the men, they have no competition. American women have a distinct advantage on the World's stage. Some country's are catching up but they can only do so much when we have more liberated females than the rest of the World combined.
Ireland done this a year ago. Look at the figures involved. I’m not saying they’re identical numbers with the US but it gives you some context for how little we’re talking about here.
Some of the Irish men play in the English Premier League and would make huge salaries. That sort of money still is not available to women. The real money in football/soccer comes from your CLUB. That has not changed.

Without a shadow of doubt one of the most ignorant and sheltered statements I’ve ever read on LR, that’s an achievement.

Understood. You did a lot of explaining the issue, but no explaining why the women playing for team USA should get paid the same as men playing for team USA?

I can't argue a single thing you have listed. Not one. They are all facts or things I agree with. Still doesn't answer why women playing for Team USA should get paid the same as the men playing for Team USA.

I agree with you that it may not make sense for the US women and US men to be paid equally. I have no problem with the notion of the US men being paid more.
BUT, the argument that the women should not be paid as much as the men because they are not as good is idiotic. A valid argument would involve how much money is made through attendance, ads, etc. through the efforts of the men vs through the efforts of the women. If the money on the men's side is 10x the money on the women's side then sure, pay the men 10x as much as the women. But NOT because they are better players.

Thanks for the insightful feedback. Your understanding of the issues is beyond reproach as you so consistently and eloquently elaborated on this thread.
This AGREEMENT just happened. Many of you are dragging up old articles that don’t perfectly relate with what the men’s and women’s team just agreed.
Also Jefe there are NOT more liberated females in the US than the rest of the world combined. There are more women in Europe (alone) than in the US. It was a narrow minded take from someone who likely hasn’t been outside the US ever.
