Humans can pursue any animal to exhaustion because we are more energy efficient from walking upright. Even in normal weather the animal's energy reserves will be depleted first.
Find any animal and start walking toward it, you will see. Even if it takes a week, you'll win in the end.

If the animal knows the game, I'm betting on the animal.
I thought humans were unbeatable in long distance speed endurance, but recently learned that there’s one land creature, seemingly the only one, that can handily outrun any human in a marathon, running sub-2’ miles with over 10-feet strides seemingly for a long long time with nobody really knowing for how long but it’s suspected they can run a marathon in about 45’.
Definitely more than one, but I learned from Wild Kratts the pronghorn is the fastest long distance animal in the world.
I am 20 mph faster at top speed and routinely cover 70 mi./day. Not even close.
A dog/wolf can easily easily outrun the most well trained humans over long distance IF the weather is temperate cool. If the weather is above say....85 degrees....well trained humans are faster at marathon type distances.
if it's like 45 degrees, forget about it. the random dog in your neighborhood can go sub 2 easily with no training if its motivated enough.

This largely relies on the human carrying water. They would not last long without this in the MDS

There are many animals that could defeat humans at the marathon distance.
Yeah, I was going to say horses are impressive. There's a race called man vs horse, I think it's 22 miles. I know the horse wins almost all of the time. Just looked it up and the fastest is 1:20 by a horse. Neigh!!

And in those races the horses are required to stop and receive multiple vet checks to ensure they're healthy and fit to continue.

Yet humans have won it when the weather warms. Hold the race in a warmer climate with African elites and longer distances and you would see many more human victories.
