Didn’t see Wilson’s exchange, but Steiner was impeded at the start of hers by other runners (arguably not getting the benefit of the rolling start so much). Incredibly impressive from both though. Team USA should be unbeatable at the Worlds. The depth of talent is unbelievable.
Abby gets the nod for passing like a champ and putting her team in the driver seat. Both were amazing, especially in the context of the total race volume each had. NCAAs is going to be a gunshot.

Mu split 48.3 at the Olympics.
The splits by Wilson and Steiner are roughly equivalent to about a 49.5 open 400. Mu's collegiate record is 49.57. There have only been 5 collegiate women break 50.0.

Wilson is a beast to be sure. With her 2 previous events draining her I expected a low-mid 49 split so she surprised me with 48.6. With Steiner not being drained as much as Wilson AND never running an open 400m before AND the 400m not really being her event AND coming 2nd three times to LSU (4x100, 100, 200) which could have affected her mentally, I expected a low-mid 50, NOT the 48.77 she achieved. She surprised everyone (except maybe her coaches). They won and got the record to boot. That is amazing!!

Steiner also had to go around one runner on the 2nd turn. Wilson did not. We should have Wilson, Steiner, McLaughlin and Mu running 4x400 at the World's in July. Young and Delilah can be an alternate.
In a way, Abby's performance for me echoes how Tuohy kept getting denied, then popped a seemingly effortless 4:06 CL. It must have been very gratifying to finish her rough day at the office like that (no diss to Wilson or Ofili who were both nails)
Isn't Young Jamaican? Plus its possible that some of them might burn out by the time Worlds comes about. I think Wilson might want to consider going for the open 400 over the 400mh this year, might have a better chance of medaling. It'll be hard enough to make team USA even with 4 spots thanks to Muhammed winning Doha 2019.

It was surely disappointing for Steiner to lose the 100, 200, & 4x100 and I'm sure that those disappointments partially fueled her effort on her leg of the 4x400. It seems sort of ironic, though, to call 11.02 & 22.07 efforts a "rough day." From what I have heard about Steiner, my guess is that she was equally disappointed, if not more disappointed, by the 4x100 loss. part of that was on her due to the baton adjustment she had to make prior to hand off.
I would still not count Steiner out for an individual title in the 100 or 200 at the NCAA championship. I wouldn't even be surprised if she were to win both along with a relay title. Those that are counting her out and discounting her will be doing so at their own peril.
@rered I honestly doubt that we will see Steiner as a part of the 4x400 for the World Championship. I'm not saying that it is impossible, I just don't see it happening. I don't believe that she has run an individual 400 since high school and her focus is going to be on the 200.
There has also been a lot of talk about her form. Her current form seems to work OK for her but I can't help thinking that she would be faster with her old form. It is simple physics and mechanics. Does anyone know who will be coaching her when she turns pro? My guess is that if a different coach than her Kentucky coach, they will begin addressing her form ASAP.
For Pete's sake - so what if the person ran a 48 split... Why some of you wax poetic about this is beyond me. Let them repeat that in a flat 400M race and then we can talk. Most likely none of these will never ever run sub 49 in an individual flat 400M so get some damn perspective people.
