why she picked nc state should not be even a question nor a topic now ... we already have answers .. its the program, the people, the location, so many running trails!
and its not because the school color is red and white, maybe she thought the school color is cool as its the same like NR but im sure she considered about the recruiting class power more than the color, thats just so absurd.
Bad decision. Dudek will be rolling in the dough in 10 years while Tuohy will be telling people about when she ran 14:52 in the Olympic trials. She will be sitting her cubicle earning $57k and nobody will care.
Assuming Tuohy stays a while at NC St, she'll finish with a BA, and some masters, maybe an MBA with let's say a 3.7 gpa, of course all free. At 30, if she wants to go back to grad school or law school, she will get into a top10 school if that's what she wants.
Similarly, Chmiel plans to go to vet school. With her 4.0gpa, and recent award as #1 NCAA scholar athlete, she'll have her choice of vet school when ready.
Obviously, schools like Stanford, MIT, Princeton have an unbelievable academic buzz on campus, and you really get pushed by your student peers, but it's hard to balance this academic level with a year round sport.
If you choose the state school for better balance and you are happier, as long as you do very well gradewise, you can always chase the top schools later for grad school. Believe it or not, this even goes for NAU or Oregon.
There are plenty of NC State grads that earn more than Stanford grads. Going to Stanford doesn't guarantee that someone will be "rolling in the dough."
Even if there is data supporting people selecting college by their school colors, I'd have to believe that would be on a subconscious level and only done by people with no specific goals for their future. I would not put Katelyn Tuohy in that category.
Whatever her reasons, they're her reasons and she seems happy about it. Clearly, she appears to have made an excellent choice and is already reaping the benefits.
I'm inclined to think a lot of the traditional "elite" schools now have a culture that adversely outweighs the academic achievement (but that's a different thread, lol).

jobs dont hire you coz u went to stanford .. gives u points in recruiting process but when youre no good, youre no good and being a stanford student doesnt help you keep your job if someone has more skill despite not graduating stanford
lol ever heard of having work ethic ?? i dont think you consider that knowing your elitist mentality
Is rojo actually right about anything in running more than rolling some dice? Color as her choosing her college based on high school color? Always discounting her performance against literally the best historical runners? Can people not see the shade being thrown. I don't know how good she will be in the end but she is definitely one of the more exciting runners in college at the moment. The podcast has some balance in being pushed back but rojo is somehow coming off as some paternalistic force in the format.

and always comparing her to pros and world class level ... like katelyn is 20 years old and is just a sophomore in college
i hate him and everyone who always bring up "world class" discussion because .. even american pros cannot even be competitive in world class lvl vs african races and yet they always discount katelyn's performances using that discussion .. like katelyn has 3 years of college running
Maybe the next time Kara says something, folks should listen.
"As Kara Goucher put it to me: “The typical female experience is a bumpy one. But talent never goes away. Once these women/girls adjust to a mature body the talent can come through again. The obsession with labeling these girls the ‘next big thing’ is part of the problem . . . Katelyn is very talented. She will grow, and possibly slow. But once she adjusts, if she still has the love, her talent will still be there.”
