Do you all know how good this kid is.?

This is just on an entirely different level. 45.78 in high school at a state meet, about a second faster than he'd run before, to my knowledge, indicates that he has a very high ceiling in the 800m. At this point, it is hard to see any goal in the 8 that he lacks the ability to attain in the future. And this was already a guy who had run 1:48 indoors. I just did not think he had this kind of speed.
His dad posted the race video on YouTube:
Wait until his Dad lets him wear some super spikes!
Great running
Dude always looks like he is running downhill, it's incredible. I think he is the most talented of current HS midD & distance crew...if things fall right for him...will be an all timer on the world stage.
Kudos on the camera work, Brad!
I totally agree with the above poster, one of the signs of amazing talent, is that ability to run absurdly fast while not appearing to strain whatsoever...he is not even leaning thru wire...of remotely out of form, this is a 1:45.x-146 very low waiting to happen. I rarely give away those types of projections lol. He just needs to be in the right race..should be able to get thru okay in 51 high to 52 low.
His dad said they wanted to focus on speed. They’ve done it. From a pure speed standpoint, he already has the tools to run run 1:40-41.
He’s roughly as fast Brazier and Amos over 400m. He’s probably a minimum of 1 full second faster than Murphy and Symmonds, and they’ve both run 1:42.
His frame is that of a 5k runner. He seems to be like 5’8 130. So he’s packing a lot of power into a small frame. All good signs.
Agreed. Just look at the way he closed in his 500m record
Just call him "Downhill Will" for how he makes it look.
Interesting thoughts, first of all, he may have those tools, but there is no way he is running those times in the near future, I don't care how fast that is.
Murphy and Symmonds, were not the 400/800 breed, but more the 800/1500 type
Sumner , so far is clearly the 400/800 hybrid..with most likely a higher by a bit ceiling at 800. I think they have exhausted the low end for now, and should at least try one big 800M, they clearly know what they are doing..just for our viewers LOL, would I like to see him and Flatt at 800.

Oh I wasn’t saying he could run a 1:42 or below now. I think he’s a 1:46 guy now. I was saying they’ve done such a good job with speed development that he could mostly focus on getting stronger for the rest of his career and get those times.
Versus for example, guys at age 23 who aren’t fast enough on the low end to compete on the world stage.
classic letsrun - "oh the kid is so skinny i didn't think he could run this fast in sprints. surely he's done now, he must move up"
Yes in his 500m record it looked like he was accelerating more and more as he approached the finish line. He is very young and has run some amazing times/records. Looks to be a great 800m runner.
In his 500m record the other runners are also very good. Sumner as the record holder looked great.

I think he can still go lower in 400m if he can crack 11.00 100m. Everyone always says move up asap but the kid is having fun and can always move up later. 45.78 is US#1. That's the real deal.
Oh
i should have been more clear
i think he can and will run faster
my thought was he has High enough level 400 speed now to crank out an epic HS 800

Uhhh he's ran all-time top times in the indoor 600m and 800m... and has to go sun 45.2 to even crack all time top 10 outdoor...which he may be able to do tbh. But this is no "jeremey warnier run the 8!" pipe dream, he's shown us he's better at longer distances.
16:44 is actually really good for someone who does not focus on xc
