This has NOTHING to do with Bowerman and EVERYTHING to do with the sport. Every other professional sport has a season, while track is two races per year. USA, and the world competition. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.
Did Coe and Ovett race every weekend against each other in their prime? Did Filbert Bayi and John Walker race every weekend against each other in their prime? Did John Walker race every weekend against Ivo van Damme in 1976? These are not the days of Sugar Ray Robinson boxing Jake LaMotta half a dozen times.
there are a million reasons to complain about how pro running works, but you can't blame them for not running pre when the USA 10k is the night before. that's 110% on USATF, not bowerman
withhold judgment on this point until we see what his post-worlds season looks like. hopefully he'll tear it up in europe after worlds
i think part of this issue tho is that jerry's attitude towards altitude is that you should stay at altitude until basically the day before you race. hence BTC going back to park city in the middle of USAs. I imagine harder in europe to go to San Moritz back and forth constantly with a robust racist schedule.
Yeah, he might, but I don't think that helps him for World's this year. I think Fisher's biggest weakness right now is his lack of experience at the very top level. He needs races in strong, deep fields which is impossible in the US. He needs to be prepared for the physicality of African and European rivals. I think he can essentially get bullied out of a medal, just like Chelimo bullied him in the 5k at USAs last year. By contrast, I was really impressed with Elle Purrier at World Indoors for the way she raced. She was really aggressive and mixed it physically with elite competitors. She went way up in my estimation and I think she could get a medal this year, especially with Laura Muir coming back from some down time and Hassan maybe focussing on the longer distances. Purrier is a more likely medalist than Fisher in my view.

Why is it like this in America but not in the rest of the world where it is the national meets + DL season + world champs/olympics?

I agree with this. It is interesting, much was said in Norwegian media about Jakob and how he had to learn to run in a pack of superstars and that was a skill on its own. It seems like this isn't something that has as much focus in the US.
I would take a lot of people over Hocker right now. He is not in prime shape and not closing like he did last year. Just like with Hobbs Kessler, no reason to panic.

Might I remind… It wasn’t until last year that (Fisher being the topic of discussion) had the opportunity (due to Covid) and the ability and times (after graduating from University and signing a pro contract) to mix it up with top tier international competition - which he did at THE OLYMPICS! Then went to Europe and was gassed.
Actually, if one looks back at his earlier years he competed internationally at the world youth championships and world junior championships. He may have more international experience then some give him credit for and he probably all-to-well understands the at times dirty and aggressive tactics that others employ - and remembers his experiences.
It hasn’t been until 2022 that Fisher has had the ability to go to Europe and race. Let’s hope he does. Let’s hope he stays healthy and can. Let’s hope he makes the US team for worlds. Let’s hope the same for other USA runners wanting to do the same.
Please stop with all the nonsense. He and his coach know better than any (or all of us put together) one what is best based on the goals (racing and training) that they have mapper out. We are not privy to those kind of thought processes. Enjoy, cheer, support, think positive and be uplifting to the many fine young distance athletes the US currently has.

Fisher Hocker Teare Chelimo
No pacers.....just racing....
Why exclusively a US 3k?
I am just speaking as a fan. 3K is the sweet spot because it get's everyone out of their comfort zone in a race slightly different than their main event.
5K? Teare and Hocker cannot hang with Fisher and Chelimo 1500 Fisher and Chelimo cannot hand with Teare and Hocker.
Everyone loves Grant Fisher. Including me. Great ambassador for the sport and a great all around person. He also has broke American records this year in the 5000 and 10000 meters.
Congratulations! I am a huge Rupp fan and if someone breaks his records I want it to be him.
Both of these record breaking performances were time trials witnessed by very few people. No TV. I had to watch some grainy video like the Zapruder film that shows 25% of the track.
WTF? How is good for the sport? When Rupp ran 26:44 it was in front of a PACKED house at Hayward Field with other clubs involved. I was in the stands and it was AWESOME.
Anyway, Grant chooses to skip USA Indoors and Worlds this year...
Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the best MD in the world, is in the states running against NAU but not Grant Fisher.
The Prefontaine Classic features the best runners in the world. Hayward Field will be packed.
Selemon Barega, Paul Chelimo & Jacob Kiplimo running the 5K - No Grant Fisher!
None of the featured races include America's best distance runner. I am sure Jerry has him running a lesser event. USATF 10K maybe? I can't see the start list.
Kudos for Bowerman breaking so many records and running so many time trials.
However, I have a lot more respect for the smaller clubs who put their athletes out in major competitive events for the fans to enjoy.

Actually, John Walker, Steve Scott, and other top milers of the 80s raced each other many many times.
Coe and Ovett notoriously dodged each other. But it’s true that some guys in the 80s weren’t like that. Heck, nowadays Tim and Jakob certainly don’t and it looks to me like Kipsang is racing every week - it’s wild. It’s a bit unfair to compare 5-10K guys to this. I actually don’t have a huge problem with how Jerry handles indoors/pre-Trials for his distance runners except for his horrible publicity for the races. Announce your BU record attempts, 10K one’s etc and do it weeks in advance. Don’t beat around the bush around the times you’re going for. Recruit exciting foreigners/domestic runners who are often based in the US to compete (eg Beamish, Hoare, Hassan, Obiri, Chelimo, Hocker, Teare, Coburn, Jones). There’s a best of all worlds situation here. And then of course post-championships we all want to see them run every DL/Continental Tour Gold meet in Europe that makes sense because what’s the rationale to sit out then?

I agree with some of this post, unfortunately it's off base. It's a world championship year, the professional outdoor track season is JUST beginning. Grant has run incredibly fast so far this season and it's safe to say that both him and his coach have a plan, and I'm sure it involves a podium finish in Eugene. Grant will have many opportunities to race the worlds best.

Don't know why you're being down voted. Muir was on an alterG like a month ago and couldn't run all indoor season. Hassan says she wants to work towards a 2024 marathon. Tseguy is on the startlist for the 10k at Ethiopian trials. If Muir isn't back and Purrier can race like she did in Belgrade a silver is actually a viable goal. A lot more needs to go wrong for Fisher to get on the podium.

The rationale to sit them out is half of athletes are burnt out and exhausted by that point. BTC tried to go post Tokyo and they all looked varying degrees of flat except for Frerichs.
