No way. Steiner went 22.09 indoors. Now she’s struggling to stay ahead of that time on a 400m track. Ofili has added a little bit of speed in the first 100 from indoor, but Steiner is slowing down incrementally over time and that’s quite evident. Steiner has a bright future but it’s not going to happen for her all this year.

Look, you might not like it, but the good thing about track and field is that we can actually track the performances over time, and once you allow for some small conversions for wind and indoor/outdoor, the numbers don’t really lie. Her performances are slightly slipping over time in the 100 and 200 this season. Three of her top four performances this year were all indoors.

Relay splits can be misleading, and it’s not like she’s not a top 2 200 runner in the country even now, but Abby Steiner right now is not as scary as Abby Steiner February 2022 was. With that said she is a future WC/Olympic medalist IMO, it just isn’t happening this year

You don’t make any sense. But once again numbers don’t lie and math is kind of hard to argue with. But, if you need a more visual description, go rewatch Steiner’s indoor races. Her turnover and power has slipped considerably.

That happens in just about every conference 5000 each year. Its the last distance event. They enter everyone. I think there are almost 70 entered in the Mountain West. Doubt 30 will finish.

Maybe in a relay but certainly not individually.

She has shown that she has the potential to be a 200m medalist. It just isn’t gonna happen this year, and it may take the right race with the right competition. Honestly, I think 21.6-21.7x is well within her potential down the line. She showed the mechanics indoor to throw down some crazy times. It’s just sort of hard to find that consistency through a whole season in college for a variety of reasons, most important of which just being the schedule demands.

Gregory got third in the 5k and Vissa was firth in about 15:55. Gregory was probably ten seconds ahead of her.

Theres no question Steiner dominated everyone, including Ofili, indoors.

Ofili ran around 22.3 indoors and steiner had the 22.09

But steiner did run a 10.92 and a 22.35(?) into a -5.9 wind which may have been her best performance of the outdoor season.

Since then, 5 weeks ago, she has definitely not improved and slightly regressed.

But if she did not improve at the rate Ofili did, why does it have to be she “peaked” too soon, or why didnt Ofili “peak” too soon?

steiner was not running a heavier load than Ofili, (from my memory).

I went back to the first NCAA womens 4x4 relay to check out all the splits. Would you believe there has never been a sub 49.00 beore? I know this is the SEC but couldn't find that info, think the NCAA will work instead.

See if I can find Olympic splits.

Is Steiner in the wrong event? More 200/400 than 100/200.

A 48.6 relay leg from Wilson!. That's crazy. I hope she doesn't get burned out by the end of the NCAA season. Her schedule was too brutal. A 400m, 400mh AND a 400m relay leg all on the same day, and all in freaking fast times too.

She was injured senior yr. in hs too, big performances than injury, hopefully that cycle stops
