This is true but I think she is progressing in a fantastic manner. I expect she will win numerous NCAA titles before she is done.
This is true but I think she is progressing in a fantastic manner. I expect she will win numerous NCAA titles before she is done.
But reality does. In the US the top women distance runners tend to emerge in their mid 20s and there are developmental differences.
Also it is silly to compare progression based on proximity to WRs. The men's NCAA 5000m record is 27 seconds slower than the current WR. The women's is 55 seconds slower.
True. The NCAA is very soft for women's distance running as compared to men. Men are nearly world class while women are not. That is why the people point out that Tuohy's chances of being world class due to her standing in the NCAA are not relevant.
Not to digress but PEDs tend to have a sharper effect on women's performances than men's based on basic biological differences. That is why we talk about the East German women's swim team or the Chinese women's swim and track teams and the men's teams during those periods. So that discrepancy is no surprise.
To be "world class" in women's distance running nowadays means going full Lance Armstrong and Shelby Houlihan. But whatever.
* and not the men's teams....
An 8th grader in Ohio went 4:26 yesterday at the state meet. Lots of fast youngins out there.
Went and looked for it.
Jesus. Massive PRs for the top runners too. We really are in a mid d/d running boom right now and it is starting pre hs.
Wow, her brother looks exactly like her.
And his name is Katelyn like hers is too. What a strange name for a boy.
I wonder how their parents tell them apart.
I haven't seen the other posts on this thread but no wonder he's already so popular.
can confirm you dont know what instagram is
TenPas ran 9:31 3200 yesterday. Tuohy isn't top 100.
Amazing! He will be fun to follow. So fast!
Just so you guys know, him being the fastest 8th grader won’t automatically translate to him being the fastest senior.
Elliott McArthur has the fastest 8th grade 1600 and 3200 times in 2019 in the country, now he’s not even the fastest junior in his own state state.
He looked like a college student in 8th grade so he already matured early on. So that’s probably why.
Fastest 8th grade 5K times in 2021:
Got it.
It’s like Katelyn Tuohy being the best HS kid in the country. It does not mean that she will win NCAA. But then again, it does not mean that she won’t. BTW: how did she do yesterday?
I heard she won.
Another contender for fastest 8th grader—Daniel Skandera is back:
8:53 3k in his first race in several years after his string of age world records. Converts to 9:32ish 3200. Very fast, although he ran a 9:17 3k four years ago. Just glad to see he hasn’t dropped running after being pushed so hard so early by his parents (most those world records were clearly contrived, adult-paced efforts just before his birthday times by his family).
Anyone know what school Skandara is going to?
Also Newbury Park’s got a wave of incoming freshmen studs. Fastest group of freshmen in the nation that I know of.
Fastest 5K times by the class of 2026:
Clemons actually ran a 15:17 once
