Doug Soles knows how to make his teams become the best in the state. But…..5 of the top 7 are seniors. are they gonna reload next year? Great Oak was able to do that pretty well under Soles in 2016. The prospects of that aren’t looking too shabby (but American Fork will be #1 in 2023 IMO): Time trial times Converted from 2.5 mile to 5K: 15:43 - 12 16:05 - 12 16:36 - 12 16:46 - 12 16:53 - 11 16:59 - 12 17:01 - 10 17:03 - 11 17:06 - 11 17:06 - 11 So next year they bring back 5 guys who already ran a 2.5 mile times that convert to a sub-17:07 5K.
Lex Young is probably the greatest 5,000 meter running in HS history. You don't exactly need a Lex Young every year to win a state title. Jack Watson will progress just fine along with the other sophomores and incoming freshmen.
The point is, a team full of Jacks isn’t going to turn in to a team of Lexs. A team full of Jacks will turn into a team full of Jacks that progress like any other normal high schooler. They will be OK at the county level, but that’s it. Again, unless they recruit some more studs.
Will a team full of Dickrans turn into a team full of Lexs?

Well, no, but they can still turn into a team that wins NXN in 2025. But it’s gonna be by a smaller margin though.
And I agree with what The Average Panther said. In 2024 NP will be ok at the county level at the most unless they recruit more studs. Or maybe someone will transfer in if he’s not happy what school he runs for because of maybe some bad results
Is it just me, or is great oak starting to get worse too? They got 7th at nationals last year. But here, they finished 5th without Newbury Park, Jesuit LA and Jesuit OR in this race. This means they are no higher than #8 in the nation now. Their odds of their girls team’s going to NXN are low and they returned everyone. Maybe it’s because of the departure of soles? Maybe The reason why they got 7th place at nationals was more because of the leadership of the juniors and seniors (The smith and Cortes brothers) rather than the new coach?
Carmel, CBA, Union Catholic, Cherokee trail and valor Christian were not in this race either.
With Arcadia’s coach fired and their team being mediocre now, California is starting to get weaker it seems like

This year could very well be the last year that Newbury Park wins a national championship. At Woodbridge , many schools had 2 freshmen better than NP’s top freshman. so there is no point of recruiting at NPHS
So, Jack Watson is now the solid standard NP is banking on? He ran 16:41 in his first cross country race. Lex Young ran 14:38 his freshman year at the same meet. I hope that incoming class is similar to the 2019 Freshman class because Soles will be cranking out a really deep roster of kids much better than Jack Watson (no offense to Jack).
Well, now that Brosnan is gone, at some it eventually will be

His Marmothe League #1 time this year was 19 seconds faster than the time from that exact same meet a year ago. And this time was in the 17s. This was also his only meet of the season other than Cool Breeze
How well the Great Oak sophomores improved from last year with the new coach 16:16 to 15:27 16:16 to 15:34 17:32 to 15:59 19:05 to 16:34 A new guy ran a 16:03
Juniors: 15:19 to 14:31 15:34 to 15:09 15:24 to 15:11 15:44 to 15:28
Seniors 15:06 to 14:33 15:09 to 14:39 15:44 to 14:55 15:29 to 14:59 15:27 in 2020 (did not run in 2021) to 15:07 15:31 to 15:15 15:49 to 15:18
