Soles is coaching Herriman in Utah. He started 3 days before the season, so XC will be a better judge of his coaching.
In 2024 they will be better than Newbury Park and it won’t even be close.
If Brosnan coaches, I Don’t know if that will be the case. They got a solid freshman class coming in. Freshman Jack Watson is solid for a freshman too.

So, Jack Watson is now the solid standard NP is banking on? He ran 16:41 in his first cross country race. Lex Young ran 14:38 his freshman year at the same meet. I hope that incoming class is similar to the 2019 Freshman class because Soles will be cranking out a really deep roster of kids much better than Jack Watson (no offense to Jack).
Herriman has the second fastest returning top 5 1600 times and the third fastest returning 3200 times (not far behind Mountain View, which has the second fastest returning 3200 times).
Corner Canyon has the fastest 1600 and 3200 returning times.

Lex Young is probably the greatest 5,000 meter running in HS history. You don't exactly need a Lex Young every year to win a state title. Jack Watson will progress just fine along with the other sophomores and incoming freshmen.

The point is, a team full of Jacks isn’t going to turn in to a team of Lexs. A team full of Jacks will turn into a team full of Jacks that progress like any other normal high schooler. They will be OK at the county level, but that’s it. Again, unless they recruit some more studs.

I've know DS for many years and the guy can motivate his athletes to want it more than he does, coach, and he spends SO much time away from the team doing stuff creating small and big goals for his athletes. But the group NP has coming in middle school...they are good now and could be really good! Watch for transfers to NP as well. So it won't be close? I would say that is an Amber Heard drama like response. But let's see how DS does with altitude at his disposal on a consistent basis. He is very good at figuring things out.
The Southwest region will be stacked in 2024 too. Best times for freshman during the last cross season:
When is the Southwest region not stacked? Pretty much every year they are one of, if not the, deepest in the nation. California and to an extent the Midwest is really their only competition, which makes sense: it's the region with the Rocky Mountains.

Looks like at this point, Watson is the only class of 2025 NP guy that’s relevant.
Seems like the group of freshmen coming in this fall is much better. 1 guy under 10:11 and 2 more under 10:40 (if Dickran goes there). Also 2 more sub-5 guys. They also have an incoming 8th grader who ran a 10:34 once. So in 2025 they’re gonna be insane. So it’s quite possible that there will only be one senior on the 2024 NP team, unless another C/O 2025 guy ever transfers in.
Top fifteen 2 milers are underclassmen with the top 2 being sub 9:20. Plus there is an altitude adjustment
I'd be interested in digging a little deeper to see what the history at that school is. They have pretty large participation numbers, not Great Oak status, but pretty big, right off the bat, there's is potential there. He didn't go to some small rural school where they have 4 kids that run the mile and the best one was 5:15

Seems like 2013 and 2017 were their best years before this

Looks like the school is also relatively new. It wasn’t founded until August 2010.
Relatively New! Wow. I lived in the area in the 90s.....just checked it out on google maps. It has GROWN. The Wasatch Front is one giant city, now. Soles should feel right at home in all that sprawl
Great Oak CA swept the Nos. 1-5 spots to win the boys Division 1 freshman race at the Dana Hills Invitational at Dana Hills High in Dana Point, Calif. Nathan Lennox was the individual winner for the Wolfpack, covering the 3-m...

Couldn’t agree more. You actually don’t need a Lex Young to win a national title even. In 2016 Bozeman won NXN and had zero all-Americans (top 21 finishers)

You may not need Lex, but you will need better than Watson.
