Oregonians run the recognized international distances, not weird made up distances created by lazy coaches and officials that can’t figure out the metric system.
Or does the NCAA also have it wrong?

But they are in US HS. They aren’t in international competition. The state officials might wish they are something other than what they are, but they aren’t.
A simple solution would be to go back to the 1600/3200 but in place a trigger provision that the state will go to 1500/3000 if and when they get at least enough states representing 50% of HS runners to switch.
I wouldn’t care if everyone switched but kept the occasional mile / 2 mile, but until then just be normal.
Aren’t just about all NCAA institutions in the United States? I had no idea that D2 Simon Fraser University in BC had so much pull!
Agreed, Carter is a stud. If you look at Athletic.net, that was Will Heslam's first 800m of the season, coming off a win in the Mile at Arcadia and a 2nd place finish at Nike Indoor Nationals. Remember Oregon is a state without a banked 200m track. This kid is impressive. Finishes like Leo Monzano.

Actually, people are just fans of high school sports in general. Some are fans of how teams do, and predict how cross country teams do based on track results and who stepped up during track.
They don’t predict who will be the next Olympian. Actually, they stop following athletes that graduate from high school
