If you did 30 miles a week and ran 14 minutes in the 5k then everyone would agree you are very talented. But 20 minutes off 10 miles per week isn't anything really, I could do that.

Obviously id be pretty talented if that was the case..... but no one was even saying anything about having talent??? So i have no idea what you're trying to get at.

You asked what your potential was, but you didn't give any parameters. With the information given I don't think you have any talent, but a 14 minute 5k off 30 miles per week would be an obvious indicator of talent.

I never asked if i had any talent? Are you autistic?
Certainly not that special to do that but possibly some half decent talent and if you put in the work you may have a great deal of fun as a runner.
My mate (in his 60s) ran 19.05 off 6 kms a week of running on average 3 weeks per month, also about 200 kms per week cycling.
He would jog a km warm-up then would run parkrun in around 20 mins with his dog. Occasionally ran without the dog and ran in the 19s. For a couple of months he added a 2d run on some weeks, usually an easy 10 to 13 kms. Off that he was able to run just under 40 for 10 kms. His long standing knee issues flared up not long after so he has packed in the running for now.
He had been a 17 min guy in his late 50s and a 15 min guy in his day. Blew his knees out late 50s and turned to cycling.
So an old codger with dicky knees and non elite talent was able to come out of retirement and run faster off less running.
that's pretty impressive but again I've never stated that a sub 20 5k off 10 miles was impressive nor have I claimed to be some special talented runner lmao. I asked for opinions on what my potential for the 1mile/5k would be if i stayed at 10 miles a week. Its a hypothetical question that people cant seem to understand or they are just butt hurt that they cant run as fast off 10 miles a week. idk maybe people are just insecure
A lot on here really think that you need to run insane miles to be fast. They have no perception beyond their own experience. I was able to run a 4:49 mile off about 5 mpw and zero endurance training with 2 interval sessions a week. While being a daily smoker lol and having no talent.
I hardly doubt you were working 70 hrs, running 70 mpw and being a great parent/ spouse to your family and maintaining a social life with extra hobbies on the side.
You are right to hardly doubt it, because it is true. I also wrote, read, lifted, rode a bike, etc. The keys are as follows: don't watch excessive tv or spend time on social media, embrace really early mornings, make the most of weekends and lunch breaks, and make your commute via bike or run. Also, not sleeping helps.
Now, I'm certainly not telling you to do any of that.
But I am telling you that you could easily find the time. You just don't want it. Which is fine. But no excuses about pets or hobbies. You simply don't want it.
What do i not want?? Because I have no idea what you're talking about. The only goals ive stated in this post was to build up to 30 mpw and break into the 17s for a 5k by the end of the year. As far as i can tell im on the right path. So please tell me what the f*ck you're talking about.
I've already stated that I do not want to run 50 miles a week so if that's what you're talking about then yes you're right I do not want it lmao. I want absolutely nothing to do with running 50 miles a week because that's not my goal my guy.....
