None of them are actually from Newbury Park. Hmmmm. I’m sure it’s all on the up and up. I highly doubt Brosnan has been in touch with Micah Dikran and been training him before he was allowed.
Do you know for certain that they're all headed to NP? Out of curiosity I looked up Dickran on athletic net. Already this season he's run 54.55, 2:04.78, 4:45.16, 10:37.87. Not bad for an 8th grader.
Bernardino is going to NPHS according to instagram. Dickran follows Brosnan, Lex/Leo Young and C Sahlman on there, so it makes the odds even higher that he’s going there.
Sloan and Cantu have older brothers on the team. Cantu will be an 8th grader. Chances are they’ll go there when they are freshmen

When do you all suppose Brosnan will coach his first "fast (4:20)" kid that didn't have a big youth track background? Do you think he's a good enough coach to progress someone from scratch? I guess we'll have to wait to see if and when he does it to know.

Lol
How many coaches brought any kid to 3:56 in HS (or faster)? 3?
Then how many also brought a second kid to 4:00 (or faster)? 0?
…and a 3rd kid to 4:01 or faster? 0?
…and a 4th kid to 4:01 or faster? 0?
…and none of these kids are named Nico Young.
I’m not talking in one year. I mean over their career as coach (10, 20 or 30 years).
Plenty of College coaches never achieved that in their career. Even fewer College coaches achieved that in one year.
Look at Yale for example. Only one guy has run a sub 4 mile (not as fast as NP school record). Only 3 have gone sub 4:02 in the whole history of the program… Dozens of other College examples…

And with all that, he still hasn’t had one kid run “fast” who wasn’t fast before he got them. We’ll see, maybe he’ll be able to do it some day.
There are more guys that may be related to the people that go to NP Brayton Sax - 15:50 in the 4k (going into 7th or 8th grade next year) Riyaan Doshi - 16:09 in the 4k. Grade unknown Aydin Blunt - 5:28 in 1600. Don’t know what grade he’s going into.
Seems like some here are upset that kids with decent middle school times go to NP, as opposed to kids who never ran organized track. Fact is there are many youth track programs throughout So. Calif. And amazingly some of those kids actually attend other high schools. I guess what the posters want is an environment devoid of youth track programs, where kids who played soccer or no sports at all come out as freshmen and run 5:45 their first time and then expect Brosnan (or any other coach) to develop them into 4:20 or better milers. Otherwise, Brosnan is a coaching failure.
I had read that NPHS has limited the number of students on the track team across all events. This might also apply to other teams. Their track roster is not very big, esp. relative to other schools. This is not on Brosnan.
Hey great point here, actually, thanks for chiming in with this.
Looking at the boys XC team, this past season they had: 5 seniors 7 juniors 8 sophomores 5 freshman
Do you know if he helps coach the local club team that has those 4-5 sub-5 8th graders someone else was referencing earlier in the thread? As I recall that team is or at least a few years back was pretty big.
Having coached in the past, I could see it making sense to have a larger club team with paying members and then a smaller HS team. Maybe that's what's going on and I'm gonna lose this $1 bet.
Newbury Park actually had 16 freshmen in 2019. And that doesn’t include Martinez who went to a different school at the time. It went from that to 7 class of 2023 guys. Crazy
There are hundreds of track clubs in California. Newbury Park was nothing before Brosnan got there. He has had a hand in the development of many of the middle school kids, however, as he has that track club and he has the younger brothers who get advice from their older brothers on the team and he talked about speaking to the middle school coaches in the area and helping them develop their kids. Also, the latest prospect, Micah, is way ahead of the Youngs to this point, especially in basic speed, having run 25/54/2:04/4:41 in the 13-14 age group, in contrast to roughly 59/2:11.

He has no role with the Newbury Park track club or the Camarillo Cosmos. Those clubs have been around for 50 years, way before Brosnan was in the area.
The latest prospect (Dickran) is very mature looking and far more physically developed than the Youngs were (especially Nico). Brosnan is also not supposed to be in contact with Dickran while he is in middle school as he does not live in the Newbury Park district. If he has had a hand in the development of many middle school kids, it is against the rules.
