I think they’ll run 7:26.0 give or take. 3:40.0 for the Sahlmans and 3:46.0 for the Youngs. If they had multiple attempts, competition, made it more of a focus etc. they’d probably run low 7:20s.
Saw Sahlman just posted on his story that they ran a league meet today? 1600 in 4:18, 400 in 50.2, and 4 x 400 in 3:28. No Leo Young in results. Assuming no 4 x 800 tomorrow then?
They all went out in around 61 seconds, not just one guy.
And if you think that he can be back to the same shape as he was before so quickly, then you obviously have never had a serious illness in the middle of a season.
he wasn't in 9:02 shape at best during that race. he fought to get into the lead the first lap, went through 400 in 61 which loaded up his legs too much and then started to fade and could see he wasn't on form which means motivation to push to his limits would have tanked as well.
if y'all don't understand that, i don't really know what to tell you other than you've prob never competed before.

do we know how serious the illness is/was? enough to not want to fly out to Penn, sure, but otherwise do we have specifics? leo went out in 60.8 and he was not feeling 100%, so i have to assume his legs got loaded up with lactate fast and then he pushed on for a while but if you've ever raced and you've got bad legs and are way off where you usually are the motivation goes out the window in a race where you aren't scoring for your team.
i raced professionally for 5 years. i've had mild illnesses in-season like anybody and know how fragile the body is. if he's sick for a week it'll take about 2 weeks after he's feeling better to be back at nearly 100%. this isn't necessarily some catastrophic thing by any means.
now if he's still sick right now and not getting better, sure he's gonna be falling behind but i don't think we know if that's the case yet.
Can they? Yes!! Will they? We'll see. These are the splits from the record:
1:53.00, 1:52.79, 1:55.27, 1:47.71
Don't think they will have an anchor that strong but all 4 NP runners should be capable of running faster than the other 3 legs. LBP had competition setting the record which helped too. I think they get it 7:26.24
Were they close to their individual PRs when they ran the 4x8 record? Everyone here is talking like each runner will match or beat their individual PR which is very hard to do.
Colin sandwiched in a 50.26 between his virtual tie in the 1600m (4:18.34) and 3:28.46 4x4 (Aaron, Lex, Colin, Zaķi Blunt,,) in a dual meet with Thousand Oaks. The wheels are turning.
Chris Hall led off with a 1:53.00 1:50.68PR Jun 4 93rd CIF State T&F Champs Finals 2011
Aaron Harris 2nd leg in 1:52.79 1:53.21PR May 27 CIF Southern Section Masters Meet
Christian Penn 3rd leg in 1:55.27 2:00.17PR Mar 19 Redondo NIKE Track
Myles Andrews anchor in 1:47.71! 1:50.63PR Jun 4 93rd CIF State T&F Champs Finals 2011
Penn was focused on the 1600 during the season, with a PR of 4:15 so obviously his 2:00 wasn't indicative of what he could do. But yeah looks like 3 "PRs". Of note, that was the final HS race (ran at post-season meet on Jun 18, two weeks after state) for all four of those boys, so they may have been extra motivated knowing that.

wonder if they used that 1600 for 2 mile pacing. that's kind of how i operate in these low key dual meets with ZERO comp. 4x8 and 8 @ 1600 pace. 1600 @ 3200 pace. blast a 4x4

Are you suggesting that these four will run the 4 × 800? According to athletic.net Blunt has a best of 1:58.92 in the 800. That won't do. Anyway, where is Adam Olsen?
Perfect weather conditions Friday night for this record attempt. They'll get it.
Kind of surprised that's so many don't seem to think they will get it.
I'd be rather surprised if they don't get it. Clearly they have the ability and it would take a rather off performance from one or two of them to not get it.

Nope. The wheels are turning for Colin. Appleford and Cantu ran 1:57s yesterday, and are faster than Blunt. Supposing Colin and Aaron split 51s, and Blunt a 52, that leaves Lex around 54. Lex is the weak link in the 4x8.
Per MileSplitCA Twitter, NP will forgo the 4x800 at Mt. Sac on Friday and focus on setting the DMR record on Saturday.
If a healthy Leo Young were running the DMR record was as good as gone. But even without him they have a shot, though it will be closer. Figure Lex with the 1200, and then if they can get either Blunt or Cantu to give them 52 point the Sahlmans finish it. With Leo out the 4 × 800 was probably a stretch.
