That is kind of an understatement to say he was walking and hit by a dump truck. He was on foot on a highway. That doesn't just happen. The way you post it makes it seem like he was walking through his neighborhood and sideswiped by the truck.
There are only two ways this happens. Suicide attempt or under the influence. Still very sad but the reality is this is a guy who repeatedly acted immature and made bad decisions since his entrance into the league. This is why he fell out of Washington in 2 years despite having a perfect opportunity to be started. The way this is already being portrayed is with him as a victim when once the dust settles this should be a learning moment about choices and actions having consequences. Someone who had enormous potential in life is now dead in their mid 20's.
Strange circumstances. He was hit by a dump truck around 6-6:30AM. Assuming his car stalled on the side of the highway, we did he not call AAA for a tow, etc?
Either he was heading home from an all nighter or heading out for an early morning workout.
When you cross a busy highway in the dark, that’s probably gonna be your last. Florida drivers don’t yield. In fact, they aim for pedestrians. In South Florida, you’d think insurance premiums were lower if you had a few hit and runs.

He was maybe not an AAA member. AAA only helps out members.
My first thought is that he was crossing to get to a breakfast restaurant from his hotel.
Maybe the wind blew something out of his car or truck bed, and he wanted to retrieve it. Maybe he had been drinking and thought, "I better not drive. Guess I'll walk."
He ran out of gas on his motorcycle and was on foot to get off the highway. Horrible tragedy.
Every road motorcycle I've owned had a reserve position on the shutoff valve to give you a few more miles if you run out. Maybe he didn't know that or he forgot.
Truly so sad to hear about this. As a lifelong Buckeyes fan, I'm shattered by this. So young and had a chance to turn things around with a good future ahead of him.
Gil Brandt is 90 and has since apologized but what he said about it was pretty awful.
Here is @Gil_Brandt on NFL radio when asked about Dwayne Haskins. “He was a guy that was living to be dead.” “It was always something” with Haskins “Maybe it he stayed in school a year he wouldn’t do silly things [like] jogging on a highway.”
