3. They're a Young (pardon the pun) Freakin' team! 3 of their fab 4 are juniors! That doesn't get talked about enough. The fact that these guys have a whole 'nother year of Highschool left after this is unreal. They've always been a Young team. Every single national championship they've attended over the past 4 years (NXN, NXN, NSAF, Runninglane) they've only had two seniors on Varsity. There's always something to look forward to next year.

The year after that they will have at least 3 seniors on varsity. Doshi, Sloan, Porter. Quite possibly Shetty and Schohn.
They also have a group of freshmen coming in. We can expect a bunch of them make varsity as seniors.
Once these two households of kids are gone, you'll never hear the name Newbury Park every again. The coach thinks he's good, but he's just been lucky two households are willing to drive over an hour one way every day for school. I bet they don't even attend in person because CA allows at-home learning due to Covid. For instance, in a 20 person cross country race where all 20 runners are scored, Great Oak would absolutely demolish Newbury Park. Probably by 100 points. Now tell me, who has the better program and coach?

When you look at who had a better JV team, and you look at the 3-mile times, you will notice that Great Oak had a better JV team.
Great Oak has better returning 3-mile times for that year.
Don’t get me wrong. Newbury Park will have sophomores that year who will score for them, and don’t forget the c/o 2027 Adrian Cantu who might possibly be in the mix too.
But I think that Doshi/J Sloan/N Porter, who they list as the top 3 NP returners for 2023, will all be scoring.
And you never know. Great Oak might have a solid class of 2026 come up too.

Newbury Park boys - number of seniors in the top 7 2017- 2 seniors 2018- 2 seniors 2019- 2 seniors 2020- 2 seniors 2021- 2 seniors 2022- 5 seniors. Would have been 6 if Martinez was still on the team
