Didn't have to do a lot of attempts leading up to this, not tired. Another world record tonight less than 3 weeks from his last WR!

And Mondo gets it at 6.2 meters on the last attempt!!
Delighted that Mondo overcame the ineptitude of the officials messing him about by prioritising the relays over a world record attempt.
Best athlete in the world and it’s not even close. So graceful and effortless and a thoroughly nice person as well.
It wasn't the officials fault that the pole vault was down to one guy at the same exact time at the 4x400 relays were scheduled to start. The officials aren't the ones who made the time schedule.
And Mondo himself made the decision to delay one of his attempts because of the relays, not the officials.
I am shocked at how high quality the stream on peacock was for the while weekend. Every second of the entire meet was covered excellently with no commercials. Rather than using those droopy american NBC commentators with no knowledge of the events and who can only fill air time with (poorly) feigned interest in brain dead human interest stories - this time the highly professional and knowledgeable european commentators were used . The meet was terrific in its own right and the coverage on peacock wins the final gold medal for me. Hope this bodes well for outdoor world champs
Lesson to be learned. Don't let Americans be commentators. (Yes, I'm American. And yes, I'm being serious.)
Same setup for Tokyo. You just have to make sure you get the World Feed (it was on NBC Sports not Peacock then). They had a delightful British guy who was a field events coach and was losing his mind over Crouser’s Olympics etc. Main guy from this year Rob was on it, so he’ll definitely be back. They had ESPN’s John Anderson and an Australian lady who was good too. Once you get the World feed you can’t go back to NBC coverage except for Ato Boldon on sprints really.
Peacock coverage all weekend was excellent. Icing on the cake was today's call of the women's triple jump. Announcer totally lost his voice repeating the final distance. Really hit the mark on emphasizing what a great moment it was.
Maybe he did some sessions a little too hard without Gjert to tell him to stop or maybe he just didn't have it for no reason at all. A few years ago, silver would have been fantastic for him. He obviously would have stomped Tefera had he been at full strength like in the world record, but he also started out a bit too fast for this time of year (27 mid catching up after a slow start), so that might partially account for how he felt later in the race.
Worlds were really good for the USA, despite the absence of many of our best contenders with the long trip and despite the disaster in the 4x4. The U.S. had 19 medals to the 2nd place country, Ethiopia with 9 (177 to 76 in the placing table), and the Netherlands, with 4! Ethiopia had one more gold with 4 and a great result for them, but still great depth for the U.S. With potential medals lost from Grant Fisher and
Crouser silver(!)
Wilson 800m gold
Brisco silver and Sant bronze 60m
Coleman silver! 60m
Trevor Bassitt a surprise silver 400m in 45.03, maybe gold if the winner hadn't pushed him out to lane 3
Purrier St. Pierre silver 3000m
Hoppel bronze 800m
Nilsen bronze pv
Grant Holloway gold 60mH
Sandi Morris gold pv
Katie Nageotte silver pv
Chase Ealey silver women's sp
Kendell Williams hep bronze
Marquis Dendy lj bronze
Jarrett Eaton bronze 60mH
Marvin Bracy 60m bronze!
Gabriele Cunningham 60mH bronze
Donald Scott TJ bronze
This whole thing is laughable.
Tons of nobodys.
4x4 heats and finals the same day? Other events similarly inanely scheduled. Did some teams have scrubs to throw out in the heats while other teams had 4.0 people available? Either way, its silly. Just make the meet a few days longer, sheesh. Its the **WC** hello? Its not some all comers meet at the Armory.
Also, just pick a place to host it. Permanently. NYC, Boston, London, who cares, but some major metropolis.
Gotta give some credit to Tefera. We are assuming he’s the guy who ran 3:33, but there’s 3:30 talent in there and he timed his peak great obviously this season. He was coming off injury and dropped a 3K pb in a win earlier in the season. His entire training group was on fire in the meet, and that was a very strong last 100 in a race with a very fast start and steady running afterwards.
That was Jakob's big mistake in the race. He didn't like being so far back, which is understandable, but he caught up way too quickly and there was no need for that. His too fast start eventually caught up to him, and he couldn't outkick everyone at the end like he normally would have been able to.
I agree with making the meet a day or two longer.
But just because there were some stars missing, saying that there were just "tons of nobodys" simply isn't true. There were a lot of great athletes, and a lot of great performances. I really enjoyed this meet.
And Jakob tested positive for covid…
