They have posted several times about being unsponsored and selling t-shirts to help fund their training.
Did they get dropped by Adidas or are they going after another sponsor? Any insight? What companies might pick them up, if any? What would they need to do to get sponsored again?
only 35k instagram followers, that's actually kind of surprising considering their presence on social media.
Yeah--unfortunately, I have to agree with the poster that said they aren't really marketable at this point, especially with a fresh wave of young post collegians coming through the ranks. It's hard to maintain a career in running and one world's team is just not enough.
Adidas was right to drop them in favor of the BYU women who have way more potential and an upside than Nikki does at this point. That's not to say that Nikki is a bad runner, but with the rise of so many young stars, they are going to get lost in the sea. Nikki barely beat out sinclaire to make the world's team.
Nikki representing LGBTQ runners is great, but ultimately, much like Colleen or Alexi Pappas, they are going to learn the hard way that ultimately the way to keep a sponsorship is to cross the finishline first. You can have influence and you can make sales but fundamentally the sport is going to gravitate towards the fastest athletes--which frankly is as it should be. And 35K followers is just not enough to really get any sponsors excited about them especially when they probably aren't going to make any USA teams or win any titles soon.
The hype about her championing transgender issues is not relevant here.
She’s not sponsored because she’s aged out of her events and ceased to become competitive a few years ago.
First of all Nikki goes by they, and it's really not that hard to say "they". The fact that so many of you are so resistant to saying "they" is kind of what keeps Nikki relevant. The more you intentionally misgender them, the more you prove their point that trans people face needless discrimination.

They??? What does that even mean??? You can't say her??? We've lost it people and are so far gone that normal will never be normal again.
For a female it helps to be attractive, big on social media, be personable and above all, run fast. Currently, Hiltz is none of these. The apparel companies are looking for athletes to promote their brand, if you are not doing that, they have every right to drop you. - Keeping it real!
I’m not sure where this “unfriendly/ not personable” is coming from. If you actually follow Hiltz they seem like a genuinely funny/kind person. But I do agree that while 35k followers is more than most runners have, it’s not enough to be attractive to a brand. In terms of running, at this point Nikki seems like someone who will make US finals for the next few years but not top 3.

Change is scary, especially when it doesn't benefit privileged white men.
What no one here seems to know is - did Adidas offer any sponsorship and did Nikki decide that they was worth more? 35K followers and being among the top US athletes, (even if not a lock to make an international team), are qualities significant enough to receive a gear and minor stipend. And I would be surprised if Adidas did not at least offer that. The question is whether Adidas did not offer enough (or any) money, or sought to reduce the amount of money it offered from its prior deal and thus Nikki decided to look elsewhere.
No one really knows and it is all a guess - but to say that Nikki is not marketable or not worthy of sponsorship is incorrect.

God...
This histrionic reaction to saying "they" was probably the same reaction from conservatives during the stonewall riots and the gay rights movement. "normal"...is not a thing and never was, and "they" is really not a big deal.
Now you might think i'm some liberal SJW but I'm actually not, I just think that the people crying over "they" are being oversensitive and ridiculous about something that really doesn't even affect them.
TBH, Hiltz is about as marketable as Herr Parsons at this point so probably is deserving of a roughly similar offer. If not part of a group as part of that offer, it just doesn't make a lot of sense when it comes with steep tradeoffs in terms of commitments that can't be delegated among a group.

Read you're prior post, with all the "proper" pronouns it's almost unreadable. And if someone started reading it and didn't know that Hiltz goes by "they" they'd never really know what you were saying.

Triggered culture warriors throwing a tantrum over a simple word choice, they're so effing soft.

If you can't figure out the difference between "your" and "you're" then it's clear why this would be so confusing for you and why you also fail to understand that the fault doesn't lie with anyone else.
