Nuguse is a championship runner and has proven it numerous times before. He also ran 7:38 CR this season. But something was off in that ACC race and here too he went out really fast and couldn't hold it. Maybe he's overtrained or maybe he's suffering after-effects of COVID. He'll be back.
when did he get covid? probably this tbh if it was within the last month or so
The fact of the matter is he is very good but he isn't so much better then the other top collegians that he can win without being 100%. I agree something seems slightly off with him this year and with the target on his back as a. NCAA champion, record holder, and Olympian his rivals are amped up when he is on the line.
Is this just a blip or did I overrate him? Did make Olympics last year .
I have no idea if he’s running well or not. Haven’t been following him. But he showed a lot by not running in the Olympics. He’s mentally week and doesn’t have a fighters mentality. Not surprising if he’s having a disappointing season

he got covid the week the ran the 3k in boston. Got cleared the day of
When I was looking at attending Notre Dame the team was absolute trash. Got waxed at their own home meet, wouldn’t make nationals, etc. like him or not Carlson has turned the men’s program around pretty significantly
It is not hard to have a good team at ND. You get a bunch of rich kids from good HS schools and have the inside track on any Catholic kid in the country.
What's been damning about Carlson is that they'll run well when you least expect it but blow up when it matters. If you have good kids it's not hard to get them to run well at some point, but getting the timing right is the important part.

Calling someone mentally weak for not running with an injury, and misspelling 'weak' as you do so, says more about your mental weakness than Yared's.

Just like you’re mentally “week” for not knowing how to spell weak🤫

Ask any runner that's tore a hamstring if they regret running that race knowing there already was an issue.

What’s your optimal descriptive word for a guy that set the collegiate record in the 3k, then finished ninth when it counted? For his sake, at this point, I hope he actually does have an injury or sickness that explains his abysmal performance at the meet. I mean, that 3k was BAD.

And he is trying to bolt for a pro position because he knows he can't sustain it. Got lucky with a few supremely talented athletes.
I think he has proven more than enough times that he is an extremely high caliber athlete. I think he had an epic introduction to the highest rung. He was first a DMR hero and split artist who ran these fast splits for his team. Then he translated that to the open to be a bit more official. Has success there and makes an olympic team.
I think the fact that Nuguse missed the Olympics is weighing on him. And it's like he did all the work to get there so therefore he still has a hangover from the idea of just making the team and doing it. Many athletes don't really think beyond the Trials, to a fault.
So, I think he is in need of a mental break. Maybe he has outgrown the NCAA like some people have suggested. But looking at him he just looks jet lagged and tired. He should take a trip somewhere if he can, have some fun and reset.
