Why didn't he run the 800 now? I'm sure there is some equally obvious answer..
These meets just suck. Why do they even have this the week of conf champs? Just to MAKE DARN SURE no NCAA athletes considers running? I mean...what? What sense does this make?
The NCAA is at fault. What is more prestigious, competing at a global championship or for points for a school championship? It's ridiculous that collegiate athletes will not get the chance to go to indoor worlds simply because of the constant idiotic management of the NCAA system that runs college athletes into the ground impacting their ability to qualify for and do well at global events.
A University gives athletes scholarships so that those athletes can compete for, yep you guessed it, their University!
"Their ability to qualify and do well at global events" is not the university's problem. That's not what the scholarship money is for.
This is completely absurd - the dude did nothing wrong!!! Why are these splitting hairs over this ??? There was no advantage whatsoever to those microscopic infractions!

yup. track and field continues to bite itself in the @$$. what a joke.
I think there must be something else. I cannot see what rule he violated based on that photo.
Lane Infringement
17.3: In all races:
17.3.1: run in lanes, each athlete shall keep within their allocated lane from start to finish. This shall also apply to any portion of a race run in lanes;
17.4: An athlete, . . .*, shall not be disqualified if the athlete:
17.4.2: steps or runs outside their lane in the straight, . . .** or outside the outer line of their lane on the bend;
and no material advantage is gained
* Verbiage regarding relay races removed for clarity
** Verbiage regarding steeplechase diversion removed for clarity
From the above it seems the only line that is under regulation is the inner line on a bend. I could find no additional rules in the indoor section of the rules (Part V). I would have thought that Brazier would have a strong case to appeal if this was the reason he was disqualified. The fact that his appeal was rejected makes me think there was something else and this outside lane infringement was not the reason.
I was responding to the LetsRun article. You would think that with a story like this they would update it with any developing information. But then this is LetsRun, always best to keep the outrage boiling.
Regarding the new photo it does look pretty bad. The photo shows his right foot just grazing the line which looks pretty minor. But the problem is: It is his right foot. Where is his left foot going to land? It is quite possible there were three steps on the line.

They DQd him for impersonating an elite 400 runner.
They understood that allowing Brazier to continue to believe he could make a US 4x4 team for Worlds despite being slower than 34 collegiate 400 runners currently this winter would be a travesty to the sport.
Maybe he can hit the NFL combine which just started this weekend and he can continue his dream of becoming an NFL wide receiver
ah yes, to protect us from sending an 800m runner slower than 34 NCAA 400m runners on the USA 4x4, we must send a 400m runner who is slower than Donavan Brazier
Why didn't he run the 800 now? I'm sure there is some equally obvious answer..
My understanding is that they informed him of his 400 DQ immediately after his heat of the 800 was run. Double screw job.
There was about 40 minutes between Braziers 400 heat and his 800 heat. How long does it take the officials to decide to disqualify someone? There should be a time limit.
Or at the very least, tell Brazier that they were considering disqualifying him so Brazier can then run the 800 heat as a backup in case the 400 DQ actually ends up happening.
Line judges need to feel important. Otherwise they are just standing there with a flag in their hand doing nothing
They also disqualified SEVEN 800 runners for supposed lane infractions. I've never seen that many DQ's before. Something needs to change because this isn't good for the sport.

That is the confounding idiotic myopia of certain parts of American culture that I simply do not understand. Because after all, getting an award from the Better Business Bureau or home grown association is more prestigious than getting a Noble. SMDH
Does it not stand to reason that an athlete form a college winning a global medal brings more prestige to that college?

No. Helping your TEAM win a conference or national championship is much more important to the university. Because then the University can promote that the UNIVERSITY won which is better for them then to say an INDIVIDUAL won.
Also, the chances of a college athlete actually winning a global indoor medal is very small. If they were that good, they would have most likely already gone pro.
Seriously, which college athlete this year would actually win a global indoor medal? (Abby Steiner doesn't count because there's no 200 at the world indoor championships.)
Okay help me understand this - because I swear I just read someone saying "based on where his left foot is here it's possible that after this happened he took maybe 2-3 steps inside the line".
Are we f-ing serious? For real? Please tell this could not have possibly been the justification for the DQ, that "based on what we see at this one point (which isn't an infraction) he may have committed the infraction afterwards". So now this sport is DQ'ing guys based on assumptions? Either way I don't and can't possibly believe that because it's too idiotic, so let's say that this photo is the cause for the DQ.
In that case I'm with whoever said this sport just goes out of it's way to hurt itself. Brazier is as big a name as there is at these cr@ppy, borderline irrelevant championships - it's a miracle he even bothered to show up and this is what goes down? There simply has to be more too this behind the scenes but I can't possibly even think of what. Was he not going to run the 800 if he qualified in the 4 and this wasn't what the USATF wanted so they tried to rough-hand him into running the 8 or just screw him for not doing what they wanted?
I now have no interest in watching today - not that I was going to solely to watch Brazier in the 400m, but because this whole incident would rather have me watch golf. Nice one USATF

Then he runs the 8 and isn't dq'd in the 4 and we can then whine that he's now worn down from running the 8 unnecessarily. Win win for the letsrun whine squad.
