Wild 2-heat final in the 3k. Nico did that with same pacing help but solo the final 1200 or so dodging loads of lapped traffic on a flat 200 track. Unbelievable.
How good was that Northern Arizona xc team? I don't think there has ever been a better 1-5 for one NCAA team in the 5000m and this is just the indoor rankings.
Current rankings 5000m:
5. Abdihamid Nur 13:22.24
6. Nico Young 13:22.59
12. Drew Bosley 13:26.19
19. George Kusche 13:28.95
26. Ryan Raff 13:34.77
Yeah, Young was going around scads of lapped runners for all of the final 1200m. No qualifying times meant big fields this year, with a lot of spread.
NAU had quite a meet. Impressive, impressive crew. MSU also. Hamilton got all but one of the NAU guys in the mile by taking the pace. Perrin got all but one in the 5 by taking the pace (and going around Bosley when he passed and immediately slowed it down) and Perrin & Hamilton both got all but one in the 3. Though Young was on *^%# fire.
Should add that Nur was also looking pretty bulletproof
He ran 7:59 in the 3k on a flat 200 track at the same meet, won it by 12 seconds. Converts to a 7:40 ish. Safe to say Nico is back at it and in contention for the national title
On a flat 200 track at altitude. It converts to 7:40. A little faster than his brother
NCAA conversion is to 7:41.97, 3rd only to Nuguse and Nur.
