Yakob nd Barega have OG Golds
Aregawi, Kiplimo, Barega, and Kipruto are world record holders.
Any wr holder can win gold medals. Not all gold medallists can break world records. The world record is the pinnacle of achievement in our sport.
Interesting opinion. Only Kiplimo has a wr in that set youve highlighted.
How would you rank that group?

My mistake. I thought there were 2 x Karlsruhe meetings this year?

Aregawi has the 5k road record (12:49) and Kipruto the 10k road record (26:24). Whether you knew that but don’t consider them “real records” is immaterial, since World Athletics considers them real.
Watched the race: he doesn’t have wheels but he can sprint for 3000m. Distance is too short for him. I think he can go through 3km in a 5000m in 7:30-7:32 right now. He’s fit and dangerous but has zero kick. All speed endurance.
Can you ever just please shut the f up? Literally every single thread gets derailed by you hate posting incessantly about "Yakob". We get it you hate him, the schtick isnt funny anymore.

I just didn’t consider the road records outside of the half marathon/marathon; but you bring up an excellent point. Heady credentials however they are termed.

Me as well.

Is he too old to be a ‘phenom’?
Great winning time.
Good showing of the race:

I was kind of expecting a ER from him today
Impressive result for Aregawi but it’s hard to be too excited just yet. Don’t forget that Wale ran 7:24 last year and then did hardly anything in the outdoor season. Both failed to medal in Tokyo but Aregawi is at least coming off a strong summer on the roads. I just hope this latest improvement will translate to success at the World Championships.

I’m hoping that there is not something more concerning that accounts for his absence. It would not be good for Spanish athletics.

Very impressive showing from Aregawi that shows hes got wheels. Just 1.3 seconds off Komen's indoor WR, Aregawi's indoor 7:26 is rated at 1290 points.
Fun fact, Komen's outdoor 7:20 and indoor 7:24 are both rated at 1299 points, though I personally think indoor performances are overrated.
This solidifies Aregawis spot on the list of phenoms more impressive than Yakob. For those curious, the list goes: Kiplimo, Barega, Aregawi, Kipruto, Wale, and Oscar Chelimo.
Barega has said he is going to road running. I wonder when?

Yakob doesnt have wheels either, he just sprints for1500m. He has zero kick, just speed endurance.

He looked kinda pissed after finishing, I guess the hunger is there for another WR attempt
