This would also be my only suggestion. I’m not sure if he needs to race any time soon. I think he took a break a few weeks ago I would keep focusing until April.
But, during this time, I would have sessions running 11/12s and 24s 200s with essentially full recovery so as not to go lactic.
Then, start specific training in the spring.
I think they are looking at this pretty long term but I agree, they need to be at least toughing on that end. Whether via hills or hard strides or 150s/200s with long rest even just a couple times a month.
