It’s very clear that these kids that run these monster Altitude conversions are incredibly talented and some of the top runners in the sport - I just want to be clear, I am not discrediting them or their performances.
But if you are training at altitude, why are their times being converted for indoor qualification standards? They have the rare luxury of training and sleeping at altitude on a daily basis. An abnormal oxygen intake is a normal bodily function for them and they are “adjusted” to it (at least more so than others). Since this is the case, why are they given the benefit of these luxurious altitude conversions?
Perhaps I’m fishing, but I truly believe you should have to come from *near* sea level to qualify for these conversions.
Maybe that’s not the best way to do it, but it’s certainly an advantage to race at altitude when you’re currently training and living at that same altitude for months and/or years. Idk, perhaps force some of these kids to run somewhere else for their qualifying mark. Just a fun and intriguing topic that crossed my mind this week.
