I understand the desire to increase the women's distance from 6k, but why the hell cut back the men's event from 10k to 8k? The world XC distances are now 10k for both men and women. Why not make the women's race 10k, on par with the men? Are you telling me that top collegiate women who run 70-90mpw and run a 10k on the track can't handle 10k XC? For those college coaches who will complain about not being able to use their middle distance athletes to score points...well tough luck!
