Maybe he'll go play baseball?

Highly doubt it. He was the 9th pick. That's worth about a $5 million signing and he'd be locked in for about $500k a year for 6 years as I am guessing the A's still hold his rights. That would be less than the pro-rated amount he would have to repay on his signing bonus with the contract he is currently locked into (and dissatisfied with) with the Cardinals (see Ricky Williams). He'd essentially have to pay money to play baseball for the next six years. He doesn't have much leverage now. He would have more leverage next year when he is going into the fifth-year option portion of his rookie contact.
Man if I have a team I am staying far far away from this dude. You're a QB and you think you're being targeted for the losses? THAT IS THE JOB! The QB gets too much credit and too much blame, it is part and parcel to the position.
and now he's back in the fold?
what the heck is up in PHX??
I find it interesting that he didn't exactly deny what the Cardinals management leaked about him.
Hey moron. Who the hell is Stanford? Learn how to spell. Try Stafford as in Matthew Stafford!!!!!
Hey Pipsy. First of all, who the hell is Levron James? Second of all, how the hell is LEBRON James the most overrated athlete ever? I am not a big LeBron fan, however, he has 4 championships and will likely go down as 1 of the 5 greatest players ever. Get your head out of your ass before you make anymore asinine comments on here!!!!!
talent evaluator Great point. That tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about the bum. That, along with the fact that he threw a tantrum when the Cardinals initially balked at giving him a new contract in the offseason. Not only that, but he also deleted everything to do with the Cardinals on social media during negotiations. I guess he has some maturing to do. Here is a look at his stats. in the first 3 years+ of his career. Please then tell me he is not one of the most overrated athletes in the history of professional sports, and that he was deserving of his ASININE 5 year $230 million contract with $160 million guaranteed.
I am also curious why he was selected # 1 overall in 2019, considering he had 1 decent year in college with Oklahoma ( he only played 1 full year in college ). While I will admit he had an excellent year in 2018, how many times over the years have we seen many other QB's and other position players have phenomenal seasons, sign a huge contract, only to quickly disappear the following year? I guess when you hadn't been to the playoffs since 2015, and haven't had many good QB's in the recent past ( Carson Palmer and Kurt Warner the exceptions ), you will try anything. When you have had minimal success as a franchise ( 9 playoff appearances in 63 years ), and only have had very few decent QB's, it is no wonder Murray has set so many franchise records to date. As the saying goes, desperate times call for desperate measures.
In 2019, his record was 5-10-1. Pretty awesome. He threw 20 TD's and 12 INT's ( a ratio of 1.67:1 ). Compare that to REAL QB's like Brady and Rodgers who have had TD/INT ratios of anywhere from 6:1 to 10:1 in some seasons. He rarely throws downfield, as his arm strength is average at best, hence the high completion % of 69.2 % in 2019. He was also sacked 48 times. While the OL is partly to blame, he often waits too long to get rid of the ball. When he can't find someone open, he runs around back there like a "high school QB" as correctly referenced by former running back LeShaun McCoy. Truer words were never spoken.
In 2020, they went 8-8 and once again missed the playoffs. While that was a bit of an improvement over 2019, his TD/INT ratio was also a little better than the previous year, throwing 26 touchdowns while being intercepted 12 times ( a ratio of 2.16:1 ) simply isn't going to suffice for a potential Super Bowl run. Again a high completion % of 67.2, the reasons for this already clearly outlined in the paragraph above.
In 2021, he threw 24 TD's while being intercepted 10 times, a ratio of 2.4:1 which is still pedestrian. His completion % was 69.2, however, 1 GLARING statistic against him was his 13 fumbles ( almost 1/game ). Of course, when you are average QB with no arm strength, it forces you to use your legs more and risk fumbles. He also makes some very questionable decisions, 1 of the most egregious being that mind boggling "attempted" pass against the Rams from the end zone last year in the playoffs. If you don't know to what I am referring, do yourself a favour and Google it. Absolutely PATHETIC!!!!! Oh yes, the final score in that game was not surprisingly Rams 34 and Cardinals 11.
Please look at the above noted numbers, and any other ones I may have missed, and tell me he was deserving of his RIDICULOUS contract in the offseason. That's right folks. $230 million for 5 years with $160 million guaranteed. I have been following all the major sports since the 1970's, and can honestly say I don't recall another athlete being so overrated, as well as overpaid. Russell Wilson stealing from the Broncos in the offseason is right up there, as well as Aaron Rodgers receiving $200 million over 4 years at the age of 38. Not surprisingly to me, the Cardinals lost to the surprising Seahawks yesterday to drop their record to 3-6 and pretty much kill any chance of making the playoffs this year. I am not going to discuss Murray's statistics so far this year, as I think I have made my point of view very clear with the statistics above.
The ONLY thing Murray brings to the table is his ability with his legs. He ran for over 800 yards and 11 TD's in 2019. That being said, it by no means offsets the poor statistics accumulated in his first 3 years. The huge problem I see going forward, if he continues to scramble as much, is the possibility of getting hurt. All you have to look at is what happened to RG3. He unfortunately didn't learn how to slide thus cutting his once promising career very short. Remember folks that Murray is not in college any more. The defenders are much bigger, faster, and stronger. Being slightly over 5'10", he will not be able to take a hit like QB's such as Roethlisberger, and now Josh Allen, can more easily absorb. Eventually he will get squashed like a bug putting his career in jeopardy.
The other reason Murray and the Cardinals will continue to fail going forward is their coach Kliff Kingsbury. Mike Bidwell, Cardinal's owner, must have been on something VERY strong, not only when he gave Murray that asinine contract, but also when he gave Kingsbury a SIX YEAR contract extension despite the team's poor performance from 2019-2021, as well as his less than stellar record in college. I guess there were no other coaches available when they initially signed Kingsbury in 2019. The Cardinals have never won a Super Bowl ( very close in 2009 when they lost to the Steelers 27-23 ), and if they keep signing people like Murray and Kingsbury to long term extensions, it will be a LONG time before that happens.
Broken plays aren't an offense Very well said. I think Kyler Murray should have played professional baseball. His career would likely have been much longer. I don't think he will finish his current 5 year contract. If he continues to scramble so much, it is just a matter of time before someone puts him out of commission for good!!!!
NotPC I agree 100%. He is WAY overrated and should never have been drafted # 1 overall. He had 1 good season at Oklahoma. They should also never have hired Kliff Kingsbury either. He was a flop in college as well at Texas Tech. When you have had 9 winning seasons in 63 years like Arizona/St.Louis has had, you will try anything.
conversion calculator Are you serious? He is not overrated? You obviously have NO idea what you are talking about. He is an average to good QB at best and will NEVER be elite!!!!!! Check his stats. for the first 3 years, especially his TD/INT ratio then get back to me.
I think this is a record for the most posts in a row by the same person.
Kylie Murray While I agree there are many QB's better than Kyler Murray, you obviously don't know what you are talking about. Some of these QB's mentioned here are no longer in the NFL, or are backups. Get your facts straight before you comment again please!!!!!
talent evaluator Not to mention the fact that the Cardinals had initially put a clause in his new contract saying he needed to study 4hours/week. Talk about glowing support!!!!!
DinoZ The reason people say he is overrated is because many people consider him a top 10 QB. Certainly NOT me, however, there are many people that for some reason have hopped on the Kyler Murray bandwagon. He is average to good at best and will NEVER be elite. He should never have been taken # 1 overall and did not deserve that asinine contract Arizona signed him to in the offseason. He also has a lot of growing up to do. He will be out of the league before he is 30.
zvcxzcvx You should look at ALL his statistics and not just his passing %. The ONLY reason he is in the high 60's is he doesn't have the arm strength to throw downfield. Look at his TD/INT ratio. He has been between 2 and 2.5 his first 3 years which is pedestrian. Rodgers had a 9.6 ratio a couple of years ago ( 48 TD's and 5 INT's ) while Brady had 50 TD's and 8 INT's ( 6.25 ratio ). Murray will NEVER be elite which is obvious. He really should have played professional baseball instead. He will be out of the league before he is30!!!!!
NotPC All you have to do is look at the tantrum he took in the offseason when he didn't get his extension right away and consequently deleted everything about the Cardinals on his social media. If I could, I would send him a soother and a rattle. What a baby. Also, the fact that they initially put in his contract that he needed to study 4 hours/week tells you they aren't even sold on him. I can't say I blame them!!!!!
What’s true is Kyler has a torn ACL so his season is over. He will struggle to be the same player when he comes back.
