Great run for her, but my first reaction was surprise that the AR wasn't faster. I figured Deena had run faster but was surprised she didn't

Funny men here calling it slow when they would be ten minutes or more behind Hall.
exactly. hey bogus hs coach. post up your half marathon on youtube.
right on sara.
There's no doubt that by world standards 67:15 is weak as a national record, but experienced marathoners like Hall do not tend to run great half marathons. They tend to run half marathons at a pace much closer to their marathon pace than do newbies to the event. Her husband is a great example of this. I predict that Hall will run 2:18-19 after this. But D'Amato beat her to a much better American record, the marathon record of 2:19:12 today.

I think that's a little disrespecftful to Sara. She ran an incredible race.
But that said, you are correct. When the American record is 67:15 and the world record is 62:52, that's not good. That means Sara is about 20 seconds slower per mile than the world record pace. That's a substantial margin.

D'Amato is about as far away from the marathon WR as Hall is from the half WR. Shows how strong her (D'Amato's) time is.

I'm quite surprised by O'Keefe. 67:42 for a debut is great.
I was thinking the same thing. That’s crazy fast for a debut.
Compared to what? Doped up times set by athletic frauds whose performances are so obviously PED enhanced that it is a insult to everyone's intelligence? That is why no one cares.
Anyway congrats on a national record.

And you know what? It just got less embarrassing.
God forbid we be happy for someone breaking the half marathon record of a nation with 167 million women in it.
I have said nothing bad about sara. it's an issue with our women's half marathon running as a whole. I think you have to be in the 1:05s before that record has any legitimacy. And that is still so far off.
but good for sarah. im happy for any serious runner who runs a solid PR.

Ryan Hall's marathon pace is nowhere close to his half marathon pace.
I have to admit it was very anticlimactic.
When the record is very soft it really is just about who the next women up is. Kinda like being the highest paid QB in the NFL. It only last for about a year.

That's Rift Valley territory.

Soft compared to the world list, sure. But the half has been raced a lot in the last few decades, and she’s at the top of a list with names like Huddle, Kastor, Flanagan, Cragg, and Goucher. Probably inaccurate to suggest it’s that soft of a record.
And the argument above is further weakened by the fact that WORLD records are also often taken down frequently. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they were soft.
Where was Josh Cox today? Usually he is all over mugging for the camera
Agreed, if the new Marathon record is 2:19 how is the half record only 1:07? Seems like it should be at least a minute faster
Vicoty Chepngeno’s 65:03 is the US All-Comers record, fastet time ever on US soil that is superior to the American Record! She also ran 15km & 20km AC records enroute
