Both Hall and Keira took significant time off from running during 20s and 30s. That could be the answer to running faster in longer races. Not wearing the body out and staying injury free.

I never would have imagined that when I surgically repaired her ankle to allow her to return to running that she was going to end up running the American record in the Marathon. Unbelievable!
Proud moment

I don’t think Hall took time off.

She did. She wasn't doing serious training when Ryan was competing.
According to Strava, she wore the Zoom Fly 3.

Not only a great call that she was too disciplined to blow up, but a crucial role in allowing her to get back healthy!
Fun that the American record holders in the men's mile and the women's marathon both ran pr's at Brasschaat in 2007-8 and are coached by the same guy. If you note, none of her track times, except the 10000m (run last February and not very good relative to this performance, are within 13 years of now, and her recent road times are just multiple levels above any of those old track times. 15:08 5k in Memphis announced that she was almost a different runner--and at the time I was one of those who questioned the course measurement. I'm not questioning now. By the way, the IAAF doesn't list a 1:07 half for her.

Not sure what you're talking about? She's been running/racing at a high level continuously. Just look at her IAAF profile:
https://worldathletics.org/athletes/united-states/sara-hall-14305595She ran 4:08-4:10 1500s between 2008-2010, and in the 15:20s for the 5k in 2007 and 2011 - this period covers the height of Ryan's career.
Griffey is suffering from longhaul Covid, which has to be affecting her training and racing.
