Hi, I am a male sophomore high school XC runner. My SRs are 21:46 freshman year and 21:56 sophomore year. I have greatly struggled with improving my times, increasing mileage, and staying motivated to run. My first XC season was the first time I had ever done distance running. I trained over the summer pretty consistently with about 20-25 mpw, though I started out with 15 and peaked at about 35. I got injured in my third race and didn't race after that due to the injury. I planned to train really hard in the offseason, but I lost motivation and stopped completely after 4-6 weeks. I planned to due track in the spring but that didn't work out because of not being able to get a ride. I didn't run at all after that until this past summer, when I slacked off and didn't start running until the 4th week of June. Even over the summer, there were weeks after where I didn't run or ran very little. During the season, I didn't get injured, but I got sick about 4 weeks in and that cost me the little momentum I had. I ran a 22:24 in my second race, but after the sickness, I never broke 23:50 until the last race, where I ran 21:56. I was really disappointed with my running and wanted to improve, so I planned to start training. I started the first week of December and then stopped after a week. I was feeling really tired and exams were coming up so I told myself that I would start after break. I never ended up doing this, and I am now really lost. I am not sure of what to do, and I am looking for some advice. I am trying to convince my parents to let me do track this spring because I think I can get the ride situation to work out, but they don't want me to do track if it interferes with my academics. I am slower in my academics and am taking advanced classes, so I am working on speeding up and not procrastinating. Can anyone please help and give me advice on training, diet, core/strength work, etc? Thank you so much in advance.
PS: I am not able to do doubles during the school week, and can probably only run up to an hour after school Mon-Thurs because of 3-4 hours of homework daily, extracurriculars Mon-Wed and Fri, and also it gets dark around 5:30.
